For the past year and a half, I have had the pleasure of owning a 2015 F-Type R, but unfortunately, it was recently totaled. While the power and fun factor was unparalleled, I am looking to go back to an XJ, as it is much more suited for long trips, and *sigh* practicality. I have previously owned a 1989 Vanden Plas, 2004 XJR, and 2014 XJL Supercharged, and loved them all.
In an ideal world, I'd pick up an XJR 575, but that just isn't in the cards. So, I am looking at either another XJ Supercharged, or even an XJ R-sport. Has anyone had a good experience with the V6 XJ R-Sport? Is the difference between the two engines THAT noticeable? I know there will be a drop in power regardless, but just wanted to get opinions from what has been a very informative group in the past TIA
The R-Sport has sufficient power for a sedan, but similar to most sedan owners, the scenarios I encounter of having to escape cops/mobsters are infrequent of enough for the V6 to be acceptable
Hi , I have owned my 3ltre supercharged 340 bop car for nearly a year now , and coming from a ftype v6s (380bhp) I haven't noticed and different between the 2 in performance, the ftype was a real eye candy car and I loved the cracks and pops from the exhaust a fun car to drive but them seats man really back killers . The xj is far better and comfortable to drive and has a kick to it if required so very happy with it and plan to hold on to it for a very long time
Your 2015 F Type R was a V8 550 HP. Do NOT get a V6 !!! Don't let anybody tell u differently.
I drove high HP supercharged V8 XJ's for years and about two years ago bought a 2016 V6 340 HP XJL Portfolio. Totally regret it. Shoulda stuck with the V8. It's a fine car to drive around town but lacks the "drama" that a SC V8 has.
Am currently looking to replace it with the right XJR575 myself
My recommendation is to drive a V6 SC and a V8 SC and experience the difference. I was pleasantly surprised that the 340 hp with the 8 speed trans is no slouch at all. In fact, I was shopping for the V8 in a particular exterior and interior when I found it in a V6 and then drove it. I liked it and bought it. I have had the XJ for 5 years now and have never been disappointed in the acceleration.... and that 29.9 mile per gallon isn't bad either. 340 hp in that aluminum body is nothing to sneeze at. Granted the V8 is a rocket but the V6 is pretty snappy. I didn't need drag race performance from a comfortable touring sedan. I will say that my RWD V6 is a bit quicker than the AWD V6. Of course, you could get a tune and put the V6 over 400 hp but I'm happy with it. Drive them and see what feels right for you.

Exactly, these cars particularly in long wheel base form are in fact a limo , why would one treat it any different, ok the v8 has a slight growl to it on acceleration but apart from that it is just the same car , and only a few 10 thx of a second faster . In the uk only a very few were made in v8 guise and even fewer in v6 , I intally was like the op looking for the v8 lwb with all the toys in the rear , picnic tables, tablets tv etc but searching for years no show , and bingo stumbled across a v6 in the spec I wanted . Could not be happier , if I wanted to GO faster I have still got my Aston for weekends
I have a V6AWD with the VAP ECU tune on it. It supposedly according to VAP makes 416HP at the crank. I can assure you it will get you in jail very quickly and with the Michelin AS4 tires on it will hold its own on a curvy road.

That's a beauty, love the color and rims! How much was the tune?
I have a 2013 XKR vert and a 2018 XJR575. The two vehicles are entirely different. I enjoy throwing the XKR around the twisties in the local mountains and use an enjoy the XJR for unparalleled interstate cruising and every day around the town usage.

I do not claim to be really good with a computer so I had it done by a great shop up in Virginia. The tuning kit cost $995.00 plus I think I paid around $250.00 to have it installed but if your good with a computer you would just need the kit. I thought it was a pretty inexpensive way to get 76HP.
I have been quite surprised at how quick the 2013 S/C 6 cylinder XJL is. For perspective, I sold a 500 RWHP sedan that ran 11.58 in the quarter to buy the Jag. I highly recommend the V6 S/C.
Tell us a bit more about about your 575! I'm seriously considering upgrading from my 2016 v6 340 HP XJL Portfolio to a 2018-19 XJR575 if I can find the right one. But I do ask myself.....is that upgrade worth nearly 3X the value of my current car?
I am aware that the 575's are rare as hens teeth vs. the more common V6's so that is factored into the price. But that is a huge spread! Thoughts?
I have been driving, owning and playing with Jaguars since 1974. I have owned two XJS's, multiple XJ12Ls and Van den Plas as well as two earlier XJRs ,2 XKs and the current XKR and XJR 575. The 575 is, I'm told, only available as a LWB which is huge particularly when you compare it to the XKR. The power and thrust was scary given its size, until I got used to it because it is not quite as nimble as the vert and contains 75 more horses and torque of 516 up more than 12 foot lbs. This is my 3rd XJR and I think probably the best in terms of quality, construction and panache.
I'm told that Jaguar only built about 500 of these and that there are 35 in the UK. If that is case, my guess is that there are less than 350-400 575s in the states; which makes them a rare cat which will never be built again. If you can find the "right one" go for it because there isn't anything else like a 575.
Thanks for the feedback. We have to remember that a few of these also probably went to Europe Asia etc. so 350 to 400 in US might even be high??
i’ve owned many high horsepower Porsches and Corvettes so I am used to a lot of HP. And the fact that the 575 only come in the long version United States to me personally is fantastic. I like my daily driver to be a long high horsepower nimble sedan !

It is wildly thought here in the uk that only 10 575 were made , but I tend to go with your information as at almost any given time there is one for sale in the uk car online buying places like autotrader and pistonheads here in the uk but still a scare car, just a few days ago a even rare model one off 18 came up for sale the v8 supercharged Autobiography car only on the web for a matter of hours till now sold, if your not first your last

Thank you everyone for your input on this. Much like questions on F-Type v6 vs. S vs. R, opinions really do span the spectrum based on personal taste. While doing one of my several daily checks on XJs available throughout the country, I came across a 2014 XJL R that was right in my $$ sweet spot. Cost a little over KBB value, but hey, as many of you know, not the most common car out there. Triple Black. black rims, and yes, pics to follow once this gets delivered next week . Thanks again all!

Congratulations on your purchase! I have a 2015 XJR L, so I can confidently say that you will be ecstatic behind the wheel. I’ve racked up over 22,000 miles on mine in approximately eight months. =) I’m sure many of us look forward to seeing photographs of your newly-acquired monster!
Not a problem. It was just under $40k w/ 50k miles. It stinks seeing how expensive cars are everywhere right now, and a real crappy time to get my car totaled. With my luck, interest rates and prices will plummet in the next 3 months, ha. From what I've seen, a similar XJL Supercharged would be in the ~$30k range, unless you want to deal with the "Biff's Baller Cars and Smooth Rides Emporium" roadside dealerships. I came across a few higher-mileage 2014 XJRs for a little over $30k, but would have had to pay shipping from the east coast, and just didn't make sense. There was also a recent 2002 XJR 100 w/ 18k miles for sale in California, but it's listed for $73k! For those interested, this was my previous F-Type below. It was a one of a kind wrap, which you can't tell in the pics, but had a glittery/sparkle effect that really popped..
Well, after a lengthy back and forth and some drama, car finally arrived. Clearly needs a little touch up on the paint, tinted windows, and I will probably de-badge the back save for the leaper. To those who referred to this as a "Rocket Ship", I think that is about the most accurate description. Sure, this isn't taking the F-type R in a 0-60, but it wouldn't be too far behind, and the immediate power is absolutely absurd. Can't wait to put a few small touches on this, and look forward to some road trips this summer
