Battery Question
Hi All. I have a 2013 XJLS. I was having an issue with the auto on/off showing an error message and not operating. I ignored it for a while as I don’t really like the on/off feature. However I had to take the car in for some warranty work so I asked the dealership to check it out.
I got a call this morning and was told the issue was two batteries need to be replaced at a cost of aprox $900. Tried to put fear in me that I could be left stranded somewhere as one of the batteries is the primary for initial start and 2nd was for the eco function. Said they use Interstate brand batteries.
My question is does this seem premature to have the batteries replaced on a 2013 model year? Do i really need to do at a Jaguar dealer or can a Goodyear etc store handle this? Finally what would be a fair price. Any input is much appreciated! Thanks.

Not unusual your car is 4+ years old. Just about any luxury car is very hard on batteries.
BUT you can save a lot of money replacing the batteries yourself. They are not that unusual just find the right size. I do think $900 is VERY high!!

The regular battery costs about $280 and Interstate is the best one to use and also has a hookup for the vent tube. The secondary (stop/start) battery is almost impossible to get anywhere other than Jag and it costs @ $290. So we are at @ $600 for the batteries. The dealer also reprograms the car to tell the electronics that the batteries are new. Unfortunately Stop/Start will be operational again. Check with your dealer as I know mine gives me a discount as a Jaguar Forums member. Also. they may have a special going on for specified services. I have a 2013 and have had to replace both batteries within the last 9 months.
Thanks for the help. I called the Jaguar dealer in the next town over. They were significantly less at $629. They use the same Interstate AGM battery as the local dealer and actually offer a longer warranty.
Is it possible to change just the large main battery and leave the small start stop battery to die effectively disarming the system. I hate having to push the button each time I start the car in order to cancel the feature.

It's even better than that!
Just unhook the little battery. No light on the dash and no eco mode ever again.
We are lucky to have the 2 batteries. The later start/stop setups use just a single battery and I am not sure how to disable those.
