Default Battery Replacement

My 2019 XJ is 5 yrs old now.
Starting to look for replacing battery soon.
Any of you experienced owners recommend where & which battery brands I should look for?
Dealer? Retail store?
Brand? Size? Type? CCA?
Cost?
Thanks,

I just fitted a new battery to my 2018 XJR last week.
I stuck with the original AGM Varta brand (£200)- took me 15 minutes to fit and just had to reset the window one touch feature - no problem

I use the H8 battery from Walmart. Good value and massive distribution so easy warranty if needed.
My stock battery lasted 10+ years so I am lucky.
Walmart H8 Battery
One thing to check is the warranty as most give you 3 years but that Walmart one gives you 4 years.

The last one I bought was actually 4 years ago today.
From Costco, an Interstate Battery H8 AGM type 49 for $179 + tax without the $15 core charge since I handed them the old battery when I picked it up.
No problems yet, of course the temperamental battery monitor gets cranky if the doors are open for an extended period, but it always has & always will with the 2012 software.

Thanks for the post.
So pretty much any AGM H8 battery will work?
Will Costco or Walmart (& Sam's) install it for u...?
Thanks,

I have the Walmart brand and don’t forget to reset the Battery or it won’t charge correctly
i use an XTool 8 scanner to do the reset

Thanks,
Costco does not install batteries, they only sell them.
A Walmart with an auto service center will, and probably at the cheapest price.

Yes my Walmart has a service center so easy and convient. I don't allow anyone to touch my car now that it's out of warranty. A battery replacement is dead easy BUT I use any service work to inspect the car and try to stay ahead of additional problems. Plus will they clean the battery terminals if they are corroded with baking soda? No it's just a remove and replace regardless.

Plus what I have learned on this forum causes me to ALWAYS charge ANY battery BEFORE it's installed in my car. I never did that in the past but as picky as Jaguars are about batteries and their level of charge it's just cheap insurance! I still can't believe how big a deal batteries are to these cars!!

I bought mine a few years ago from Sam's Club, they did not install it however. Duracell H8 AGM 850 CCA, 3 yr warranty. Make sure it is an AGM battery, it is more expensive than a standard battery but more suitable for the use expected. Also I have not noticed any corrosion on any of the AGM batteries that have been installed past or present on this car. Since the battery is in the trunk under a flooring a standard battery would likely have corrosion and be a bigger risk of damage.

+1 on the Everstart from Walmart. Project Farm on YouTube (If you don't know of him, check him out, the channel is one of the best around) did a comparison of all major brands and Everstart was determined to be definitively the best value.

My Jag mechanic recommends the same battery.

Default Cheaper replacement battery

I installed a Weize Platinum AGM battery this morning. I purchased this online from Walmart.com for $149.99 + tax, free delivery. I suspect this is the cheapest battery available on the market. Here are the specifics:
Group 49, H8
900 CCA, 160 RC, 95AH
36 month warranty

Before installation I connected this new Weize battery to my battery charger and let it get to a full charge. Installation on the XJ is a bit more complicated than your standard car. I used another 12V battery to connect to the car through the jumpstart ports. Doing this meant the computer was always powered while the main battery was replaced, all previous radio/seat position/mirror position/trip computer and engine/idle settings remain.

The auto-start-stop feature, which everyone seems to hate, started working immediately after this installation after having not worked for the past 4 months, indicating that my prior battery had indeed gone bad after just under 5 years.

Also I found a better work around for the auto-start/stop battery instead of paying the dealer over $400. Using a YTX-14 BS AGM ATV/Motorcycle battery which I bought on Amazon.com for $42.99 +tax I then connected them with 4 gauge 1 foot cables which I bought for $9.99 +tax
