Looks like MGP makes a great set for our cars. Anyone know where I can get a set for XJL 2013 but not have to pay $200? I know I know..but I have spent so much already wife is getting too unhappy

If you decide, get the custom color to match

your car. I ordered Carnelian Red to match my XJL

 

Nice, i like the color match but you should do the cheap bolt upgrade, it looks far better than the fake bolts

 

oh I so want to make the hex mod. What size screws did you use? It would help me save some time ..


As for custom color, I emailed MGP they want total of 300, since mine is caviar red, I am thinking I would go just the red they have or Black... any thoughts ?

In terms of the covers themselves, I WOLD NOT DARE put the red covers onto a caviar red car. It would clash all to hell. Either match the red or use a monotone color... black, silver, white or gray. The guy at MGP said a guy wrapped his calipers with silver carbon fiber and it looked sick. If you wrapped a few accent prices on your car with CF and matched your calipers, that would be a good look. You can easily wrap the covers yourself before installation. For that matter you could find a wrap that matches your car. The sky's the limit. Wrap is cheap and would only take a few hours max.

You could also hi-temp paint them burgundy.

 

You have to weigh the difference for the extra $100 in terms of your time and other materials. It might be worth it to just get them in custom Caviar. At least they will be powder coated and durable, plus a perfect match. Then you can add the hex bolts if you like. I didn't bother since it isn't worth my time for a small detail, that is barely noticeable while driving. But it does add realism.

 

I understand, well its bonus time hopefully if i get some money I may just go with the custom paint...

the hex bolt I will see if I can get them cut and sanded..maybe worth the look while stand still..

Hello Ram: may I suggest get the color that matches your automobile. My XJL is
Claret Red and that's the color I want if I get these.

Be careful with this bolt "upgrade." The tolerance between the caliper cover and the backside of the wheel/rim is very narrow. It will fit just fine with brake pads you have used a couple mm off of. But when you replace the pads with new, there isn't enough room for the full pad and the bolts on top of the caliper cover to pass behind the wheel.

I've installed two sets for customers, both of which had this "upgrade." The second set we installed as we were replacing his brake pads (I didn't charge him anything since we were pulling everything anyway) and he didn't get down the street before they got caught on the rim, chipped his rim, and pulled loose. We took care of all the rim repairs for him, but will no longer install these caliper covers.

I wondered why if the seller said they were designed for the supercharged car that they didn't fit! They didn't fit because someone glued screws on to the exterior making them thicker.

 

thank you for the advise. It makes sense. In my case I got the gloss black, still waiting to find the right shop to slip them on. I will refrain from the bolt upgrade.

 

Request a quote from your Jaguar dealer about the install. I had them installed at my dealer for my XJL and my X type. Both times....$60. I thought that was fair, plus they were extremely careful not to scratch either my car, wheels, or caliper covers during the process.

 

If you can simply jack your car up, remove the wheel, install cover (3 minutes) and repeat four times, you would have saved yourself the headache of dealing with the dealer and risk getting ripped off. Further you have the satisfaction of knowing that you did something for your kitty yourself.

You can get yourself a hydro jack off craigslist for $40 and take that extra $20 and buy yourself a metric socket set.

Leave the dealer alone guys for this one.

 

i am sure my neighbor has all the tools. I will ask him ... Bellevue Land Rover/Jag is a good place I have always been treated well and they are pleasant to work with no complaints. just not sure 1 hour labor is good for this... Thanks polarisnavyxj ..
