Costco - Michelin Pilot Sport 4S
After much research I went with the recently released Michelin Pilot S4S.
This is where I would like our fourums opinion regarding the size that I ordered.
My existing tires are Pirelli P Zero Nero all season 245/45-19 on the front and 275/40-19 on the rear.
The PS4S was not available in either of those two sizes.
The size that I ordered was 255/35R-19 front and 285/35R-19 on the rear.
What kind of ride can I expect with the lower profile tires.
I was very pleased with my existing tires and will continue to ride on them till time to do install.
Out the door cost after the $100.00 Citi Group/Michelin promo was $1149.24 wich included the Service Pkg., Balance Pkg and disposal.
Best Regards,
Ray

I have new set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4Ss sized 265/35Z20 and 295/30Z20s on my SuperSport and they are absolutely the best tires I have ever had. If you properly inflate them to your recommended PSI plus 1# as you moved up one size you should be fine. I inflate mine to 39psi as I have the Speed package and a higher top speed or 174 (been as close as 165). The ride is so smooth and the handling is right there. BTW this is my 3rd set of Michelin Pilot Sports and IMHO nobody builds a better and rounder tire.

I'd worry more about speedometer and odometer error and if the front/rear ratio is now out of spec, ABS and DSC errors.
I agree, those new sizes just don't look right.
I like Michelin Pilot 4S and have them on my F-type, but I really don't think they are the right tire for XJ. Ultra-performance tires are designed for track use. This means comfort, longevity, and bad weather handling are compromised.

Based on converting millimeters to inches, with the 255/35-19 tires on the front end, height difference will be .8285 inches compared to the 245/45-19 presently mounted.
The rear height difference will be .4065" lower with 275/40-19 going to 285/35-19.
I understand that there are many varibles to take into consideation, but I'm just trying to get some idea as to what the out come will be after mounting. Maybe over thinking the whole process.

That's an 8.7 % difference in circumference in the front and and a 2.9% difference in the rears. Your speedo and odo error will be off by the latter amount but the change in ratio between front and rear will almost certainly produce ABS and DSC errors.
Take the tires back and find the correct ones.

Wow, Thanks for the info. They have not arrived at Costco yet. I'll cancell the request today.
I would definatley prefere to put the S $S on my car. What are your recomendations?

Thank you all for your experienced advise regarding my tire replacement. As said above, I am very pleased with the Pireilli tires presently on the car. Maybe in the future Michelin will expand thier tire sizes to accommadate more vehicals.

Based on your wheels I would recommend HANKOOK VENTUS V12 EVO2. It's a really good tire that I put on my wife's 2014 BMW 650I M Sport and they are quite good. As for the Michelin as I have 20" wheels they're available in both regular 245/275s and 265/295 (XJR size).
I went through this exercise several months ago and our local COSTCO refused to install any tires other than factory specs, which they didn't carry at the time. And, as I subsequently learned, very smart of them to do that.
Original on my 2013 XJ were Pirelli PZero Nero All Season. P275/40R19 105H XL (rear) and P245/45R19 102H XL (front). I eventually purchased them at NTB, who has national coverage if need be for out of town. I'd come to find out that the load index and speed number, 105H, is extremely critical, based on the cars specs. Super-charged being one of them.
It took NTB an extra week or so to find the proper load and speed rated tires. Incidentally, they were going to sell me tires with lower ratings until I pointed out their error. It's a question whether they would have actually installed the incorrect tires. That's why I love COSTCO.
Hi XJ. What wheels are you running those tires on?
I have Matavia 20" wheels. The fronts are 9" wide and the rears are 10" wide. This is the width of all the 20" wheels for the x351 XJs except the Farallon wheels as fitted to the XJR and they are 20x9.5 and 20x10.5 inches. I believe that the 19" wheels for the x351 XJs are 8.5 and 9.5 inches in width.
