Cross drilled slotted brake rotors, nice or "Worth it!"
I've had my XJL for a year now and have had no problems at all, however a recent service noted my disk pads are low but not an immediate problem. So i thought about upgrading to Cross drilled slotted brake rotors, when the pads get replaced.
my question is, would they enhance my braking performance? Would I need to upgrade my brake lines to get max performance?
or would it just make it look nicer?. I plan on doing this all, if required before I put on winter tires in the next month.

Yea I would not worry about the slotted and/or drilled rotors on an XJ. Not needed. I also changed pads to Carbon Fiber/Kevlar because of the brake dust from the factory pads.
Jaguar is a high performance company and both Jags I have had came with stainless steel braided brake lines. They are rubber covered for wear so they don't have the bling look regular SS lines do. Again not really any better brake lines either.
If your real serious the F-Type guys got a big brake upgrade which can be done on our XJ's too.

Ian, I am looking to do exactly what you are looking to do. I have bought all the parts already, just waiting for the pads to wear down some more. I did this conversion on my X-Type. From the X-Type, this is what I noticed:
-car seemed to brake harder when the brakes were applied heavily
-there was a slight whirring noise created during the first braking of the day and then faded over the next few to something barely perceptable after that.
-under hard braking, you will get a whirring sound
-when the rotors were cold and wet, the pads would not grip initially (for say the first 0.25 seconds or so, until the water was wiped away). This may be a function of the ceramic pads more than anything. once dry and warm, gripped very well.
I will let you judge based on that whether it is worth it or not.

I got drilled and slotted rotors from R1 concepts they look and work great. I think they are more for looks though as I didn’t have any problems stopping with the original rotors.
I did make the mistake of buying the R1 concepts pads too and they are super dusty. I wanted to change material (ceramic, etc), but was informed rotors should be machined when doing this to allow new pads to better bed with the rotors. Only downside with drilled and slotted rotors is that many shops won’t machine them. Albeit, the tolerances on these rotors are so small you can’t machine much off them anyway.

The drilled / slotted is really for looks. You won't see a performance difference in street driving.
I swapped the rotors on my XF (with the large 380mm brake system) for drilled / slotted about 5 years ago. Mostly for the appearance (which I love). I also moved to ceramic pads for dust reduction (EBC RedStuff)
The brake dust reduction is amazing! And stopping power great, feels a bit more modulated and less grabby than the Jag setup
But - after about a year I got bad pedal pulsation on braking with the R1 Concepts rotors and they replaced them under warranty. 2 years on and it has done it again. I've kept them on as I've not been driving it much but it has got very noticeable so am moving back to the OEM rotors. I've had the brake system thoroughly checked by dealer twice and by a brake specialist and they assure me the braking system is working perfectly, hubs and wheels all straight and square etc. others have had better luck with the drilled/slotted. But my brake specialist tells me they don't recommend them up here in the NE of the US due to temperatures (not really sure why - he did explain but I forget now)
Also lots of people using the Porterfield R4-S (street) ceramic pads on XF and F Type with very positive reviews. I'm moving to them when I get the rotors next week. VAP (site sponsor) stocks them. But make sure they are made for your specific model and brake system as lots of different sizes across the jag lineup.
