Default Daylight running light LED in headlight hack

Many of you want the "Audi" (and now others) look with the LED strip on as DLR. So far the only option is to pay about $ 2,800 to exchange w. Arden aftermarket headlights.
There is no coding (software) option. Technically impossible because LED strip is hardwired parallel to tail lights. So if LED is on, tail lights would come on if you power them up.
Solution:
On headlight main plug, pin 2 (left and right) is powering those LED strips. Cut the wire close to the plug. Run ignition/acc power from fuse box in passenger side engine bay close to firewall. Place inline relay close to headlight plug. Power acc. power on, relay disconnects power from headlight LED input and powers from ignition on all time. When ignition is off, relay drops and reconnects to original wiring scheme. (Later is necessary so your parking lights keep working).
I took a few pictures and have diagrams and pinouts. It works great. LED strip is not the brightest but just right for my taste. Having a black car I like to have some DLR on front but don't like the main or high beam always on as is the only dealer option available. If you are interested on pinouts, pictures and diagrams send me a message.

Hi. Interesting. How difficult is the work (can a layman do it himself).

Would appreciate if you could send the diagrams and pics.

Thanks in advance

Signature light hack complete!

in case anyone is a little confused with how Gears drew his wiring schematic (I admit, I was...and even wired it wrong the first time because I didn't know which part of the Tyco relay was normally open or closed.) So, I drew this up

Oh, it also helps during this project to get some special connectors that fit onto the PCB pins of the Tyco relay. Ebay to the rescue!

I was wondering if anyone has done this hack on a MY 2014 or 2015 XJ because he cable colors look like they have changed for the PIN#2 on the passenger side harness so I want to be sure do I follow the PIN# or try to match the color of the cables shown in the instructions. Thanks a bunch!

Alex, I'd say stick with the Pin placement instead of color matching the wiring. To test it, since it's an LED, you could use a 9v battery to test Pin #2 and see if it lights the bar and marker light. Don't forget to ground the harness to the battery (-) side

Default Works on MY 2015

Many thanks H2Oboy. That was correct info the pin 2 is still the same PIN for the LED lights for MY 2015 as well. In my case I used 2 seperate relays so I would not need that much wiring all over the front. All works pefectly.....

Default Cable color

The drivers side is the same color as in the pictures. The passenger side is a purple cable in PIN#2.
