The dealer I bought my 2011 from (Palm Beach Jaguar) printed out the entire 10 year history for me. Car was sold and always serviced there so it is complete from what I can tell.

It was interesting to me that my local dealer says they cannot see "all" the history from the selling dealer.

I haven't bothered to compare but their list of work is much shorter for sure. Wondering if there is a cutoff on years or something.

 

Yes, there are cut-offs.

Without going into excruciating (and possibly obsolete) detail, the manufacturer may limit access to records after xxx-years.

The dealer must follow certain minimum record keeping requirements coming from the manufacturer, as per the franchise agreement. Further, there are state laws dictating certain record keeping requirements. Beyond those, each dealership has rather broad latitude as to how long records are kept. And, typically, there is "detail history" and "summary history", the former being much more informational and the latter being quite abbreviated.
