Service history Access

Generally it seems possible but any specific dealer may or may not be helpful. Original build data and warranty work are the easiest to get. I'd expect them to be fairly unwilling if it's not a car you own. Whether ordinary servicing etc stuff is shared I don't know. I don't see why it should be, not least because the garages are usually (always?) franchises and often in competition, but I'm in England so it may be different where you are.

As part of my investigative process prior to purchasing our S-Type in December 2008, I told the dealership's service manager that I require all service records for any pre-owned vehicle I consider. They were pulled up via the dealership's IT system and printed for me within 15 minutes....

My experience, FWIW, is that full history of *warranty* repairs can be pulled from the corporate data base. All dealers have access to this.
I am not aware that dealers use a common respository to store history of non-warranty work: routine service, mechanical repairs, body work, etc.
Of course a dealer can pull history of everything done at *that* particular dealership.
Not saying mine is tha final word on the matter.
Cheers

Rick, you're priceless....
Staatsof.. If you are looking to buy one..Go to your local dealer with a dozen donuts and the VIN...If they are anything like my dealer the service guys will pull the data for you... Remember it is in their interest even if they aren't selling you the car. At some point with these cars you will need them. They may have to mark out some information (they aren't allowed to share a previous owners personal information.) but they should be helpful.

Since you are in NJ, right? I grew up there...trust me...if you go in with some good 'ol dunkins you'll be fine....Just be straight up and tell 'em that your bribing them since you've never asked for a service history before...
Now if you show up with tea and scones they'll probably boot you out on your rear....
Oh, BTW, if you can...9:30 - 10:30 AM is the best time to hit up the service guys... The morning rush is over and the sales team hasn't had time to give them a bunch of work....
