Default Extended Warranty by Nov. 30

So it's time to start this discussion again... extended warranties!

So the CPO is up on my car on January 15, 2017. I'd like to get an extended warranty for the car, as not having one scares me (I hear the stories of the head gasket, water pump, etc). The dealer only offers one through Ally, and I'm getting prices ranging from $4,700 - 6,550 for varying levels of coverage that is good for 3 years or 30,000 miles, whichever comes first. My problem: I drive 15-20K miles per year, so I feel the warranty won't be valid for very long. There's a lot of other companies out there, just not sure who to use if I go for it.

For those of you with XJ's that have "higher mileage" (mine has just over 63K on it), do you think it's worth the added cost? Or am I better off just pocketing the same amount of cash and using it for repairs if need be? I'd hate to blow $5K if nothing goes wrong, obviously, but would also hate to get socked with a $10K repair bill when it could be covered with a deductible.

Opinions?

I say put away a finite amount every month and save it for if you have an issue. That way, if you do sustain something, you have atleast a good chunk of the money already and if you don't need it, you have a nice down payment on your next vehicle.

I have the same issue as you. I bought my Jag with 61k miles on it, and have been very nervous, because I really would like to have an extended warranty on it, "just in case".

I contacted the largest extended warranty companies and was told the same prices, about $5000 or so for 30,000 miles extra, which honestly I feel is way to expensive.

I am not sure what to do, I don't really want to pay an extra $200 a months for the next few years on top of my $700 car note, not even including insurance.

But I do feel like I need at least 40,000 extra miles of warranty on this jag, just in case.

What to do, what to do?

So, with one day to go, I decided to forgo the extended warranty. The cost/benefit analysis of it just doesn't make sense. Based on the repair history I've had so far, I can't imagine that I'd shell out more for repairs then what I'd pay for the warranty in the first place. I know it's impossible to tell what will happen, but the XJ's don't particularly have an "achilles heel".

I got my extended warranty thru the Jaguar dealership when I had close to 12,000 miles. Have not yet had to use it but glad that I have it just in case.
I know a person who has an '11 XJL and the engine went; the cost for another engine came to about $9,000. The extended warranty company this person had would not cover the repair cost so it was all out-of-pocket. The mileage on this Jag was at about 60,000 miles when it was purchased about two years ago. As another person suggested it may be best to set aside some $$$$ on a monthly basis just in case the need may arise. Good luck.
