Fan keeps running after engine shut down

I have a 2005 XJ350 Super Charged. Recently the auxiliary cooling fan runs for about 4 minutes after I have turned the engine off. What could be the cause of this?

Probably overheating but not enough (yet) to show on dash gauge or cause damage.

Thermostat may be to blame / low coolant / see what others suggest.
