Hello all, I have read multiple threads regarding what type of oils we can use but this is what I have access to near me, can I use any of this oils in my car? Please see pictures.
Also, I need to jack up the rear, is it safe to jack it up, or do I need to turn off the air suspension and if so, how do I do that? I owned a Lincoln Continental and it had a switch in the trunk to turn off the compressor. Wondering if is the same thing. Thanks in advance.
Im also replacing my plastic coolant pipes with the aluminum ones, wish me luck. I hope I dont run into too much trouble.
Thank you all for the help, Please see pictures. My car is a 2014 XJ 5.0 supercharged.
LOVE the polished pipes! I'm doing this upgrade to my car soon and was thinking about doing the same thing, great to see how they look when done! I can't wait to see photos of them in the car.
If you haven't already, it can be a good idea to clear coat aluminium after polishing as it tends to oxidise quickly and go cloudy. You need to clean the surface REALLY well first, but if you make a mistake you can always sand it back and try again
To clarify the lifting: The air suspension system will detect the jacking and nothing needs to do with it. Over all: On alumium chassis use only lifting points. (do not use rear diff) Note also that when lifting with jack from one corner, its safe to lift it for tyre change etc, but don´t over lift one corner further than nessesary. As alumium construction are very solid and stiff, but it dosent have "spring menory" like steel. So, the steel chassis can cope quite much twist and it will return back its shape, the alumium do not return if bended too much. One JLR engineer told me that they never recorded such a bended alumium chassis (without collision) but in theory its possible.
Oil is a big question and I don't have any problems with any of the oils you show but none of those meet the current Jaguar oil spec.
I use this Mobil 1 product but they have changed the label and it appears to be the same product that DID meet the spec but the bottle no longer shows it? Green Mobil 1 Oil
Don't know if your aware but Jaguar puts arrows molded into the plastic side skirts to indicate where to jack the car up. I could not see them as they are not obvious but they are there!
Attached are the jacking instructions from the owners manual. It's a bit strange because they show 4 lifting points but if you jack up the car at those spots where do you place the jack stands? You have no place because the jack is in the way?
How I get around that is to drive the front of the car up on ramps first. Then jack at the large "banana" arm until I can place a jack stand in the right spot. Not correct but I don't know anyway to do it?
Listen to Vasara as Jaguar specifically says do NOT lift the car using the rear diff. I have lifted all kinds of cars this way for decades BUT Jaguar notes NOT to do this.
Will it cause problems? I don't know.
Hey please post back when you get those polished pipes on!
Careful as you might not stop! Have you seen the guy that took the engine cover off and polished the entire top of the SC/inter coolers?

Thank you, appreciate your time.
I will post pics once installed for sure. Just did the top one, the pipe under the SC you cant really see and got a bit busy and lazy lol.
I have not seen that guy, but I bet it looks awesome. I know what you mean, I polished a few parts from my Eclipse just because lol. Here are some pics.

This is a problem on so many cars these days, that I finally found a solution. I have 4 large floor jacks and I use 4 of these Jack Rods. It turns your hydraulic jacks into jack stands. You have the redundancy of the hydraulic jack mechanism and the Jack Rods.
I lift the car on all 4 jacks by jacking up each corner a little at a time so I don't stress the chassis, and then put in the Jack Rods. This gives me plenty of height to work under the car.
That is a solution! Thanks for posting that as I have not seen those before.
But man 4 jacks PLUS 4 $110 jack rods. That's gets pricey just to jack up your car!
I hope to get another lift some time as that is a luxury that I need.
freedom DSM you have the disease my friend! Keep polishing because once you start it never ends. Plus it just looks so good!

You're welcome. If I had the room and the height in my garage, I would definitely have a lift. I save so many 10's of thousands of dollars doing my own work because I also own classic and exotics that the expense of thousand dollars or two on jacks or a lift is not an issue. I do have a 3 ton mini split AC and heater in the garage, and being in Texas that is more valuable to me than a lift.
Agree, if you can DIY you can save a huge money. (it multibles if your family have many vehicles). There are handy portable scissor type lifts what dosent need fixed mountind to the floor and no need of high ceiling by poles. These can be turned against to wall for have free floor when not used. Seen these at pricerange 2k - 3k USD. That money will come back easyly around 5 years if you exsample have 2 vehicles in family and doing services yourself for them. Brake work part alone are charged min 2 hours, engine oil change min 1 hour. Not sure what are hour cost in your country but here ~140-170USD are quite common in places where floors are clean. Backyard garages might have better prices but there can be unpleasant surprices on work quality. (well, x351 don´t need to be lifted for engine oil change)
The only minor negative part owning a lift are that your neighbors, friends, relatives and your long lost cousin will ask to use your lift as well. Unless you keep it in hide.

Yes, ai can agree with having 4 jacks is a luxury some of us cant have. But would be nice to have. I would love to have the room to have for jacks lol..
Hahah….. yes, I know! Lol funny you say I have the disease, as I started to sand down the water pipe, I kept on saying in my head “I dont need to do this, I dont need to do this, I dont need to do this” lol it does look really good, I like it.
Well it's another one of those "things"?
Eaton in the US makes and provides Jaguar with the TVS1900 blower. Jaguar claims the fluid is "Lifetime" but as always we will need to argue about whose lifetime we are talking about? Note that Eaton says no such thing.
Here is a chart showing the amount of oil needed;
So for our TVS1900 it needs 5.1 oz. of oil.
I have seen all kinds of intervals and will say I am not exactly sure but do plan to change it. Especially if the SC has to come off for some reason.
Now we have had some very talented folks get access to the drain plug and change the fluid WITHOUT removing the SC from the engine but it is hard!
I plan to change the SC oil in my car when I get around to replacing the SC snout because it's clunking. I will be removing the SC to do that work.
Now that is pretty but you have the giant Aluminum SC/inter-cooler lid that is just begging to be polished up so you can leave the engine cover off for good!
Plus have you considered unhooking the crappy symposer stuff?

Good info!
What is a good source for the oil?
I changed the oil on our 3.0L RRS when I had the supercharger off. It didn't look too bad at 110K miles. When you do the job for the first time, you will be amazed at how putrid an oil can smell. It's special. Don't get it anywhere you don't want to smell it for years.
I used ACDelco GM Original Equipment 10-4041 Synthetic Supercharger Oil for the RRS, but I am not sure that was the best oil.
In terms of doing it with the supercharger on, it's just a matter of moving the bracket of the silly symposer slightly out of the way, which isn't too hard to do, and one of the things you'd have to take off to remove the supercharger anyway. Then the plug is sitting right there to remove and put a thin suction hose to drain out the old fluid.

P
DO NOT!! Tempt me 😂😂 the thought did cross my mind but would take me weeks to complete and I have so many projects going on😔. It would look amazing thats for sure.
Thank you for the info, thats what I needed to know regarding the oil.
Now, symposer uh? I had no clue what that was so I was reading on it last night. So just plug the hole on the intake side of the manifold and plug the hose that leads into the cabin uh? Nothing else is needed from that plastic crap??
I will delete asap☺️
lotusespritse most people just use the GM SC oil like you mentioned. I know I do. It's not too expensive and super easy to get just about anywhere.
christ those are really COOL! We had another suggestion that kind of followed that idea. But required 4 jacks and then a solid leg is installed under the jack so you have a solid steel support. BUT the ones you show are way better because you only need one floor jack and you don't get your floor jack stuck under the car for however long it's up in the air!
Again pretty expensive at $421 for a pair so over $800 for four!
