OK manual is wrong when it tells you to use the trip. It is done using the mode button on the right side of your steering wheel. I tried it and it worked.(nothing like asking and answering your own question. We need more posters and people willing to share.)

Default Oil Level check.

The oil can only be checked with the hood open. Now unless you know the trick. But can't tell you what that is, so you have to take it to the dealer. Just kidding. Not like you would be charged by the dealer anyway, the car is still under warranty. The reading will not be accurate if you run the car, turn it off and read it on the cluster right then and there. To get a accurate reading you should wait ten minutes with the car off then check it. But..... If you hit the cruise cancel twice you can read the level right then and there without having to wait ten minutes. It still wont be accurate, but you will not have the the "check handbook" text. I don't know if the hood still has to be open, but I don't think so. If you decide to the wait the 10 minutes the hood does have to open. Not open all the way, just released. To get a good accurate reading, I would wait the 10minutes.

Default Oil level checking

Just do it the way you know how. Explaining it is obviously to complicated.

Default 2011 XJ Oil Check

My manual was incorrect on the process. All I do is warm the motor and wait a few minutes for the oil to drain down from the upper parts of the motor. Press the start button without pressing the brake to turn on the system. On the right side of steering wheel press the OK button until you see the menue appear on right side of cluster. Scroll down to "Service" and select Check Oil. Works every time.
