Default I blew my engine?

Hello...my saga continues with this car. I was driving on the highway and started to hear a little squeal upon acceleration. Sounded like a belt. When I got off the highway I could hear knocking. Oil is full and it runs fine no misfire. I am thinking I spun a main bearing. Please take a look at the video and let me know what you guys think. I'll take off the filter later today for a look. I really like this car aside from all the problems and hope this is not the end.

Thanks for your help!

Dosent sound botton end for me. My best quest are supercharger snout coupler or bearings. You can try to take supercharger belt off and restart. If the sound is gone, take a beer and relax.

+1 on removing the supercharger drive belt.

If the noise is still present with the supercharger belt removed, remove the accessory drive belt as well to see if the noise changes or disappears.

Good ideas guys! I will have a beer then take off the belt though.

Oil filter does not look good. That bronze material is metallic come right up with a magnet.

Maybe camshaft or chain related. Usually lower end failures are a definite knock or thump

Have you checked for codes? I would think if the timing chains are slapping around that much, then you would have some codes related to the phase being off.

Amazingly no new error codes! Just an intermittent knock sensor short code that come on from time to time every other month.

Sadly, with that metal in the oil filter, you would need to pull the motor and tear it down to discover the extent of the damage. That metal could have done a lot of collateral damage.

It's decision time. Tearing down the motor may not be worth the effort/cost vs. just putting in a replacement junk yard motor or a rebuilt motor, or selling the car as-is.

I appreciate the advise. I had bad luck in the past with a junkyard engine on a different car. It appears they are around 7k...guessing 2k labor? I'll probably just get rid of it as-is. Everything else is in perfect shape. What is the best way to get rid on a car in this condition?

Ohh. Metal in filter are not good. I would peek to chains and tensioner first and if the fault are found there, continue with repairs. Othervise i would seek an used repacement engine.

We have a 2014 RRS with the exact same engine and around 125K miles, if that helps.

That noise is NOT the infamous worn SC coupler / torsion isolator rattle, it sounds very different and WAAAAY worse than that to me.
My money is on rod knock especially with all the evidence of bearing material in the oil filter.
Sadly I would say it's time for a replacement engine.

Agreed...I had the supercharger snout issue and it was nothing like this. Since it runs normal, I don't think it is any of the timing gear/cams. Thinking spun bearing. How...who knows. I DO NOT baby this car...it should take a daily fast run w/o blowing up!

How often did you change the oil?

I noticed that you installed a lower supercharger pulley a few years ago. Was this part of an effort to increase your engine power or just a factory replacement? If it was to increase the supercharger output did you also install a tune?

Every 3-7k, always under a year. I would never follow that extended change interval. You bring up a good point...could the oil have resulted in the failure? Mobil 1 has a warranty might be worthwhile to have them come out and check the oil.

Does Mobil-1 make an oil that meets the spec for the AJ133 engine?
