Agreed.
If it is as I suspect one or more spun rod bearings then something must have caused that to happen, and the prime culprits are low oil (or maybe but rarely plenty of oil but low oil pressure) and overheating (almost always due to loss of coolant).
If the OP does spring for a replacement engine then it would be nice to see a teardown of the blown engine which may in turn reveal the cause(s).
Maybe sell the blown engine to I Do Cars and recoup something?

My apologies, that completely slipped my mind.
Although there are several Mobil-1 0W-20 and 5W-20 oils available, I have never been able to locate that spec of Mobil-1 ESP X2 anywhere near where I'm at.
Where do you get that from?

Was the OP using the ESP X2 0w-20?

Pretty much if it isn't on Amazon, it doesn't exist, lol.

Yes that is one I use. Pretty easy to find but your right in that Mobil and all the rest have multiple products with very similar names. The Castrol Edge stuff must come in at least 5 or 6 varieties and it's ALL called Edge.

I can get it as posted above on Amazon or EBay just depends on which has the best price.

Oil is full (see beginning on video) and temp was normal. I was cruising gently at 80mph when it happened.

Here is my replacement...hopefully it will hold up to my driving a bit more. I miss the extra leather and wood, not the sticky buttons or tech though. Still need to figure out what to do with the XJ. Mint condition otherwise.

Well...I received the Blackstone report back. Looks like the oil dilution/degradation was not the cause. It's odd...appears the the bearing wore over time as there was normal aluminum on the sample...allegedly the top layer. So longer term wear vs. a catastrophic event? What do you guys make of the report? The engine fires right up, runs smooth, no smoke, just sounds awful.

Here is my recent XJ V-8 oil analysis for comparison. The Blackstone comments appear to be spot-on.

Intermittent knock sensor code is the red flag here. Pair a lean condition with your (stated) aggressive driving style and you get a spun rod bearing.

The video doesn’t sound too bad. If you get the engine rebuilt now and don’t drive it any longer, you may be able to save the block and crank. At this point, an engine rebuild is worth pretty close to the value of the car. Without it it’s worthless unfortunately, you may get $2K selling the car for spares.
