Installing SDD 164 on XP SP3 machine
Hey there -
I'm trying to diagnose a suspension issue (hoping it's a sensor!) and to this end I've rolled the dice on a cheap Mongoose cable which has been shipped with SDD 164. I've dug out an old XP SP3 laptop which I thought was the right OS to use based on what I've read, but when trying to install I'm getting an error to say the OS isn't supported. Any suggestions? If 164 isn't compatible, what's the latest SDD which will work with XP SP3 and where could I get it from?

First at all: Do not use any SSD what are not SLC technology (very expensive) on WinXP. It misses the Trim instruction set what is needed for all other SSD technologies than SLC (MLC, pSLC, rSLC, TLC, QLC) You will destroy your SSD quite fast with XP. Basicly SLC SSD:s are for high endurance industrial usage and not even available thru consumer channels. Cost per GB is quite high. (i work on industrial IT industry)
Win7 is the first OS to support Trim instruction set, so it will support all SSD technoligies and 32Bit Win7 will run SDD Diagnostic software very well. In past MicroSoft allowed free upgrade from XP Pro to Win7 Pro. It might still work?
Most of the XP SP3 cabable computers will run with Win7 as long as CPU is min 1GHz and you have min 1GB RAM. (somehow i have feeling that 512MB is Ok?). There are issues with some XP era intel chipsets on Win7 though. (i855 and if i remember right the 3150 graphcs adapter Win7 drivers had some issues what never fixed)
Because SDD Diag sw is not the lightest software, i recommend to have min DualCore CPU and 2GB RAM.

Ah, good to know it’s not picky about OS, because your first reply where you talk about how important it is not to use XP made me think it might be.
SSD = SolidStateDrive (non mechanical mass storage)
SDD = Sympthom Driven Diagnostics software for JLR.
Sorry: I mixed up that you mean that your software were delivered with SolidStateDrive (SSD) My bad. Very sorry causing confusion.
You can use SDD software without issues on XP.
Clubairth: Good to know. Thanks. I have an Mongoose Pro cable and i did not had any issues to use it in 64bit OS, but my SDD version refused to work other than 32bit OS. (its quite old version though, 1.53 if i remember right. Havent been keen to upgrade once its work Ok now)
