Default Intercooler

Happy New Year. I am a new member and would really appreciate some help from the existing members.
Jackie is part of my wedding car entourage and recently there was a pop from under the bonnet. The restricted performance red warning displayed on the screen and what appear a limp mode kicked in. I got home, which was 10 miles away and started the Google diagnosis.
The suggestion was the intercooler and it seems that the plastic casing just below the exit pipe had split. By wedging a piece of wood between the housing and the bulkhead I could reduce the escape of air which was reflected in the running. I am going to attempt a fix with some heavy duty sealant.....
My question is: how long should the replacement of said item take.
The garage said 5 hours.
Does anyone have a video or link to the job to replace the intercooler. I appreciate it means removing the bumper.
Sealing the split would be ideal rather than the cost of a new intercooler and replacement.... Quoted £700 so far.
Thanks in

The split is around the rear flat chamber which is about 6 x 3 inches
advance for any help

Can you tell us what car and engine you have?
I do know Jaguars but that picture does not help to identify what you have?

The area that has split and been enlarged is on the right hand side of the image

Thanks for the added car details. We are weak on Diesels on this forum since it's mainly US guys and the US never got any Jaguar Diesels.
BUT the UK forum is chock a block full of Diesels and I am sure they have some threads on your car and it's problems.

I replaced the IC on my 2014 XJR with a larger all Aluminum version and thought I might be able to help you as I still have my stock IC. But they are completely different as I suspected. I don't know if on the Diesels is this a failure prone part or not? I would suggest getting a used part as IC don't wear out BUT they are plastic so age may affect this too?

If you are also dealing with boost leaks it is worth checking the 6.7 powerstroke intercooler pipe as that is a common failure point on these trucks. But they are completely different as I suspected. Yes, 5 hours sounds about right if the bumper and front end need removing to access the intercooler. A temporary seal with epoxy or heavy-duty sealant may work briefly, but if the split is in the plastic end tank it will usually fail again once boost pressure builds. Replacing the intercooler is the safer long-term fix. £700 fitted is fairly typical depending on the car and labour rates, though an aftermarket or used intercooler could lower the cost.

Not sure what happened above?
The Powerstoke comment is not mine and it somehow got merged into my message?
