Default Jacking the car without frame twist?

There's a big notification in the service manual about not jacking up only one side of the car due to the aluminum frame. I just want to lift one side up high enough to take the wheel off so I can replace the ruined ball joint covers.

I can't use my 4 post bridge jack because I also need to have a jack on the ground to set the suspension properly for torquing.

Is it really that necessary to follow the warning, or should I pick up a third trolley jack to do the job?

As far i have understand the warning means; Don´t jack complete side, front and rear tyres up from ground. There are risk that frame will bend in jacking point area if loaded too much. Lifting one tyre up, should not be a problem. (ie emergency tyre change are always possible)

Silvertones, I have jacked a single wheel off of the ground numerous times on my car with no issues. Like was said, don't go crazy. Get the tire up high enough that you can pull it off, remove the tire, do what is needed, then put it back on.

I was say that I somewhat suspect that part of the problems that I had earlier this summer may have been because I jacked up the car too much by one wheel and this caused the rear air suspension to go crazy. But, after I reset the rear suspension, all was good again. But, I definitely lifted the one front tire lots more than I normally do.

OK,

I'll weigh in.

It's my understanding that if you are just replacing a wheel, you are fine to just lift one corner, then drop the car again.

HOWEVER!. If you want to lift the back end, or the front, you need to use two jacks and lift both side at the same time..this avoids any chance of twisting. In the same vain, it you want to lift just the passenger side, or drivers, you again need two jacks and lift together. Basically, you don't want to put a torsional force on the car.

PS. I use the "hockey pucks" that fit over the seam and avoid crushing it,

Whatever you do DO NOT use the rear diff and a floor jack!!! The IRS is not made for that and all those parts are way too expensive to risk any damage to them.

Hi guys, If we are using floor jack, is this where the jacking point is? I need to change my brakes I will be using a wood block to make sure there's no damages.

The XJ has arrows cast into the plastic rocker covers showing where the jacking points are under the car. I never knew about them until someone mentioned it.
They are hard to see if your not aware?

This is the rear one on my 2014 XJR.
