Default Jaguar XJ (2013) - Velocity AP Crank Pulley + Tune Review

Happy Friday!

Jaguar XJ supercharged V6!

STOCK 340HP 330TQ
1. Throttle response was a big disappointment.
2. Mid-range torque and mid-range acceleration was a big lag.
3. Car felt sluggish.

ECU Flash 415HP 355TQ
1. Throttle response was fantastic. The Velocity AP ECU Flash Tune gave the car 100% throttle response. Stock it was only 50% throttle response. That is why it was a big disappointment and that is why the car felt sluggish.
2. Driving in D and Dynamic mode off the car is quicker. The mid-range torque and mid-range acceleration lag was improved by 50%. Driving the car in S and Dynamic mode on the car felt like an added exciting rush. The mid-range torque and mid-range acceleration was improved by 60%.
3. Car felt lively.

Pulley Tune 450hp 440TQ
1. 100% throttle response.
2. Driving the car in D and Dynamic mode off, in my opinion, the car is 25% quicker than the ECU flash in S and Dynamic mode on. The 85tq and the 35hp improvement got rid of 70% of the lag over stock. Driving the car in S and Dynamic mode on the car is on a NEW LEVEL. In my opinion, 80% of the lag over stock is gone. The 450hp and 440tq makes the car a blast to drive. The car pulls excitedly in the mid-range all the way thru redline. The higher the RPM the harder it pulls. Also my opinion, 450hp 440tq S Dynamic mode on the car is 35% quicker than the ECU flash in S and Dynamic mode on. The hp was only an addition 35, however the additional 85 pounds of tq makes a huge difference.
3. The car is quick, is jumpy. It is pretty fast. The grumble in the exhaust is nice. The supercharger sound is also a nice touch.
4. The biggest reason that I went with the pulley tune was to have torque in the gear that I am to make a pass and overtake. Stock being at 2,000-2500rpm and stepping on the gas to change lanes and overtake the car didn't really go. With the ECU Flash it was better, a lot more lively. What i realized with the ECU Flash was that it was lively it wanted to go, lively because of the 100% throttle but when it went it was fine, it just wasn't a thrill. With the ECU Flash the car went, it didn't pull. The more you drive with the Flash Tune and have the 100% throttle at idle and you feel the car wanting to go and feel lively, the more you realize how much potential it could have with the torque that is lacking. The pulley tune with the 85 pounds of torque is exactly what this car was missing. Overtaking from 2000-2500 rpm and stepping on it, the car pulls excitedly. It is a blast now.

If you are reading this and are on the fence about getting the Pulley+Tune do your research for yourself. I did. I've had multiple conversations with individuals that have over 10K miles, over 15K miles, over 20K miles on their cars with the Pulley+Tune. Someone had over 40K miles with the ECU Flash Tune. No issues. It's fine that people believe in Velocity AP. It's fine that people on the forums are telling you to just do it. Most importantly its all about you. It's about if you value it. I found significant value. I hope this review really shines a bright light on Velocity AP and their products as an organization, but also is a testament for others to really enjoy their vehicles and know what they are getting and know what they are paying for.

It will be my pleasure to have more conversations. Thank you for your time. Have a wonderful evening.

My kindest regards,

-XJ

Hey, I plan doing the same to mine. Could you show us a video post tune of accelerations and revs?

Hi! Seems on par for what we've seen published. Do you have dyno results?

Hi there. I have the Stage 1 tune from Velocity AP and the difference is minimal but noticeable. I currently have the crank pulley and belt on my work bench (along with the Stage II tune). Since there are only 6 bolts on the crank pulley, my first attempt to swap was a fail....getting to those 6 bolts was super tight and confined. I tapped out and thought I'd rethink things...particularly figuring out how to keep the crank from turning when loosening the bolts (so confined to keep the 24mm on the middle crank bolt). I'm thinking that a (super) compact right angle impact wrench might be the answer. Not sure if the AWD makes a difference but the darn hoses in between the cooling fan and crank pulley make things more difficult. Any sage advice as to how you over came this with such little cursing? 2 of the 6 T-50 bolts were crazy tight....

I've been working on the swap from the top, I've been wondering if a lift and trying from underneath is the key (though it looks crazy tight from there too).

Thanks again!
D

Welp, I got the crank pulley installed and the Stage II tune loaded. Like the OP, I too started with the Stage I tune and felt a difference. The crank and Stage II is definitely a game changer and I echo the original posters comments. My vehicle is a 2015 XJL V6....
