Hi all, I'm clearly missing something from the User Manual but there is a brown shaded overhead plastic panel between the driver and passenger where the front reading light switches are situated in my 2016 XJL and I cannot see any reference to its purpose. I have searched online without success. I wondered if it was a security panel which screened the car for break-ins, etc. All suggestions gratefully received.

It's the IR/rf transmitter for rear entertainment system headphones. As I understand it.

 

Many thanks! The panel is located overhead in front of the driver beside the three front reading lights. My XL doesn't have rear entertainment so I think it's more likely to be a security feature against break-ins, etc. I'll post a photograph over the weekend. There are various smoked glass (plastic) panels on the roof: the one in front where the sunglasses cubby is normally located is a cosmetic cover for the space that isn't big enough for a sunglasses cubby, I believe. The one between the sunrooves is where the headphone distribution centre would be if one had headphones.

 

Hi Chris - Many thanks for your response! I think you've ticked all the boxes! The position of the forward plastic panel would be at arm's reach for sunglasses so that checks out and there is no rear entertainment centre since it's not standard in the XJL Premium Luxury. The purpose of the panel also foxed my audio installer who I've been with since 1996 and he installs systems for very high profile clients - and me! Just seemed strange that it was brown since cream/beige would have fitted in much better with the cream leather seating. Minor grumble. Many thanks again, Chris. Greatly appreciated.
