Default Mina Gallery Air Filter Kit

I got an email from Chris at Mina Gallery this morning asking if I would leave my car with him for an hour so they could test fit their new filters and heat shields. I've already got their intake tube hooked up to a pair of big Spectre cone filters with some janky homemade heat shields so it'll be nice to replace them with something more official looking. I've also got some tubing directing air from the grille directly to the filters, so no problem with getting cool outside air.

I'll update when I've got more info.

PS: Pro tip...cone filters are the key to unleashing the WHINE of the supercharger.

There are more options becoming available for intakes, some backed with dyno figures too.
Heres one available in Oz for ftype which should be usable on the x351 too.

Hi,

What is the dust filtering capacity of these filters compared to stock, and also where do they get the air from? Many such aftermarket installations do breathe in the warm or hot air that’s under the hood... whereas any additional degree of temperature costs up to one HP... A Dyno, hood open with big vents blowing fresh air on it won’t reflect this...

BR,
T.

No, I don't think that would work with the XJ. Our filters are in different locations.

Not sure what the filtering capabilities are but I've always run cone filters on my cars with no issues. I know studies have been done, but...

The air still comes from the stock snorkels which suck up air from between the intercooler and the radiator (at least on the supercharged engine), which doesn't seem to be the most ideal location. On my setup, I've also plumbed 2.5" tubing which gets air forced down their throats from behind the main grille. In concert with the heatshields, there is little to no danger of losing HP from heated engine air. And even if you didn't have the shields in place, its only sucking in hot air while you're at idle or moving slowly (when you don't need HP anyway). As soon as you get moving, the filters are flooded with cool outside air again.

How would you be using the stock snorkles from behind the grill if you've switched to cone filters? You're not able to use the stock boxes for them are you? Pic of your current setup would be appreciated, if you have one.

The snorkels and their "tubes" (which are actually just made of some kind of reinforced felt) can be disconnected from the boxes and left in their stock positions. I doubt you can use cone filters inside the boxes, though you may be able to rig something up using only the bottom half...maybe?

No pic of the setup but I'll take some when I visit Mina.

Nothing unfortunately. COVID hit and everything was put on hold. Haven't heard from Chris.
