x351 have very rare failurerate for air suspension components. Even with high mileage. Most of the cases failures like compressor failure are caused by some other event, like user stored someting heavy in area where air piping and compressor are located and causes pipe failure. An leak will overstress the compressor and negleted repairs causes compressor failure. On this system compressor are not running constantly. System uses pressured air from container and compressor are only runned when container pressure drops under min level.

Is there any preventative maintenance for the air compressor on the XJ? On my old Lincoln Town Car, it went a long way to improve longevity of the compressor if you replaced the desiccant filter every so often.

Not hear or seen any issues with compressor filter. I have still original. On x351 the air for that area where compressor are sitting are is coming from cabin, so already once filtered, exep if you drive windows open in dusty enviroment. The lines, valveboard and compressor are also covered from moisture by silica pack, wha´t can be "drained" with SDD by letting air out from the system. (this method is descripted in repair and service manual) Outcoming air drain the silica pack and then you should ventilate the trunk well to get moist air out before filling the system again. Naturally this is not a rainy day job. I have done this twice in deep winter, when the air is extremely dry.
