Default Jaguar XJL - Supercharged - Repair project

Hi Everyone,

I bought a wrecked 2013 Jaguar XJL - 5.0L Supercharged and am getting it repaired. Finally, we were able to make the engine run (the fuel system was filled with gunk and the engine didn't run) and I am seeing that the supercharger is making a louder noise than I am assuming it should?

The car came with all the main engine parts on, including the SC and all the belts and so on, so we didn't touch anything, but the sound seems a bit excessive. Is the noise ok? The noise is only coming when giving it throttle.

That is 100% NOT normal, and is not supercharger whine.

you posted that some time ago how did you go with your findings with your project?

If you take the belt off the supercharger and turn it by hand, how does it feel and sound? It should be butter smooth and quiet.

Dead right, if the charger is still making noise by hand rotation, its not common but the blades on the compressors may be interfering with each other, not common but I have seen it, that would possibly indicate the charger has been disassembled and incorrectly aligned at re assembly, not likely but possible.
Use a mechanics steth and touch the snout to try to ascertain the source.
