Default Knock sensor P0328

Hello...

I am getting a knock sensor code 'P0328 Knock Sensor 1 Bank 1 High Input'. Has anyone replaced it on the 3.0SC? I assume it is buried under everything?

Thanks
TJ

They would be in the valley under the intake manifold, which is under the blower.
I haven't had to R&R a knock sensor, but have pulled intake manifolds including my Range Rover (N/A) which is the same engine as my wife's XJ's.
And actually I plan to pull the intake manifold off the XJ "soon" (when I get around to it) to replace the gaskets, while also replacing the rear cooling "manifold", and most cooling system parts.

Once you have the intake manifold off, the knock sensors are right there, bolted to the block (or maybe the heads?) in the valley.

BUT keep in mind that I have naturally-aspirated engines, where yours is supercharged.
So there is that, unless you can keep it attached to the intake manifold by having access to the manifold bolts without removing the blower.

Unfortunately, it will indeed be a lot of work to replace the knock sensors deep underneath the intake and supercharger.

Thanks for the information. Sounds like a pain. My extended warranty covers the sensor, but I wonder if they will cover the hours to swap it. I reset the code and drove 60mi without it setting again so hopefully it was just a glitch...we will see.

XJ 3.0SC AWD 134800 miles

I recently replaced a bunch of parts for the cooling system and supercharger, and the only time I had seen this code P0328-22 was on the way home after buying the car a year ago on some rougher roads in the rain for 6 hours. I reset it and it never came back, but I thought it might have been the bumpy road.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...erhaul-272817/

Now after completing the repair I am seeing this code P0328-22 “Knock Sensor 1 Circuit High (Bank 1) - Signal amplitude > maximum” frequently now twice right after a large bump in the road. When I had the intake manifold exposed, I cleaned and reseated the knock sensors but I didn’t replace them or use dialectric grease. I am really regretting not replacing them since I had this fault before a year ago…I have cleaned and reseated the connector on the knock sensor cable in the back of the engine, but nothing obvious out of place. I don’t have a high resistance ohmmeter to read the 4.9 Mega Ohms target resistance.

Does anyone think that I could have another problem that is exacerbating the knock sensor on the bank 1 (driver side)?

I was planning to replace the spark plugs and coil packs at some point, but would this be a goodness move to help with potential engine knock? I haven’t tried the stethoscope or taken to a shop yet, but that’s next when I get some time (an hour away and a young family here)! I don’t think that it’s a real knock since it came up right after my work in this area and it tends to happen when the car is shaken, but there might be some slight change in performance when the light is on…

Since it pops up after bumps, it really sounds like a loose connection or a weak knock sensor. Replacing it or checking the wiring should help, hopefully it’s an easy fix.
