KVM
OK, new one for you!
I drove my car yesterday, thankfully I stopped about a mile away from the local dealer, I got out after shutting the car off and couldn't lock it. The door handle and the remote wouldn't work.
My first thought 'Must be the remote battery' As I'd parked outside a well known drug store I found the correct battery (CR2032) and replaced it. Nope, that didn't work! Called my wife and she delivered the spare key, nope that didn't work either. I had attempted to start the car, no joy, tried a hard reset, no joy.
Called USAA and they took it to the dealership ...They (USAA) knew how to get it out of PARK, but couldn't get the e-brake to release. WD40 and sand were put under the back tires so it would load on the trailer.
Dealer reported that the KVM (Key Vehicle Module) had lost synch with the key and reprogrammed it. All is good! They suspect that someone was attempting to steal the car, and trying hack my key fob as I exited the car. The car worked out what was happening and scrambled the codes.
PITA, but I still have the car!

Thanks for reporting back and I wish we knew exactly what the dealer did?
Maybe just re-flashed the KVM module using the SDD system?
I wonder if they used "reprogram old module" or "install new module" routine?

Just looked through my invoice, here's some more info;
"Found multiple message faults in multiple modules. Unable to communicate with KVM module. Performed hard reset, recovered module and confirmed communication with module. Performed KVM recovery/software update IAW JTB00357. Cleared all DTCs, Reset all electrical features."

Thanks Wombat! That's what I was looking for.
When using the SDD programming modules you always have "configure New Module" or "reconfigure Existing Module" options.
Now this is where it gets a bit hard to understand for me IF you can't reconfigure a module the other way to go is pretend it's a new module and start from scratch.
That appears to be what the dealer did in your case when they say recovered KVM. They wiped the old data and refilled the programming as IF it was a new module.
Instead of trying to repair the programming already in your module.
