Default Leaking tire via the valve stem??

My right rear tire continues to leak air at a slow and inconsistent pace.

Discount tire has replaced the valve stem twice now and upon leaving the shop it DOES NOT leak- we've water tested it both times. After 2-3 drives it'll start leaking again and when I spray some soap/water solution on the stem it's leaking through the stem itself- NOT from the base where it connects to the wheel.

Would a bad TPMS sensor cause that- or is that result only possible from the valve stem itself? I've done some quick research and couldn't find where anyone had air leaking through the stem, only where it connects to the wheel. If it matters, my car is a 2012 Supercharged XJL with 50k miles.

Thanks in advance for any input.

If you are trying to include pictures they are not coming through. Is the stem metal or rubber?

LOL, that was weird- no pics just some weird spacing. In any case the stems are rubber.

I've never had trouble with the stems. Maybe they got a bad batch or as I said before they may have been damaged during install.

I've had that happen, once, about twenty years ago. I ended up replacing the whole set of tires since the tread was nearly gone. That was the only car that has done it and it doesn't have TPMS. That's why I have a tool to replace the innards of the stem now. Didn't help with that one tire though and I haven't used the tool since.

OK I think I'm understanding better here is it the valve itself that is screwed into the stem, as mine are metal, that is leaking? If so then the valves are not proper to the stem. IMHO

I suspect that when you got new tires all 4 TPMS sensors were rebuilt and the technician buggered one of the threads while replacing the valve into the stem. Since only one tire is leaking, it appears that they used the correct rebuild kit. I suggest replacing that leaking TPMS assembly with a brand new one.

I tend to agree. The tire has been off the wheel several times as I've had issues with the chrome corroding on the inside of the wheel and the bead not sealing correctly. So, they likely messed up the TPMS sensor during one of the bead-seal fixes they did. What a disaster the chrome has been. I'm having all 4 wheels powder coated as we speak due to the constant issues with the chrome.
