Meridian (825W) - upload music
Curious if anyone knows if it is possible to upload music directly to the hard drive perhaps via the USB port? I know I can upload an original CD (BUT WHO HAS ONE?), and I have uploaded a CD with mp3's, but this limits the music collection to that specific CD. So for instance if you happen to have 11 Echo and the bunny men CD's (who doesn't?) They must be split up into seperate CD's and are not going to play together. I have plugged in a USB drive and that works, but would like to know about uploading as better solution.thank you
Hi
I have used the CD only, and the USB to play. Don't know of any other way to get music into the hard drive.
One thing that works brilliantly is Tidalhifi.com. I subscribe to this $19/mth, and when using chrome you get brilliant sound at the highest quality. Over blue tooth from my phone, it is amazing with this system.
Good Luck,
joe

Tidal streams CD quality 16-bit/44.1kHz so it's the best streaming platform we currently have. In comparison, Spotify streams 320kbps at best. Having said that, as a dedicated audiophile with serious home gear (Oppo 105D, Audeze LCD-X headphone, Pathos Aurium head-amp, etc.) I am hoping car manufacturers would allow playback of hi-res audio files Flac 24/96, 24/192, DSD as well as Apt-X Bluetooth for lossless music streaming. IMHO, a high-wattage premium system needs to be accompanied by high-detail, high-res sources or otherwise it's a pitiful waste.

Thanks for the replies. Loaded up a 32GB USB thumbdrive with 256 & 320 MP3/AAC files and works well. Have to be careful with quality of the thumb drive you choose as I had a few duds - best not to use the el-cheapo EBAY drives, they do not recall music fast enough
The spec sheet for the XJ Ultimate states that there is a limit of 10 CDs that can be uploaded to the Meridian sound system. See: System Sources Page 1 http://media.meridian-audio.com/data...heet-a4scr.pdf. I suspect that the upload capacity is the same (or possibly less) for non-Ultimate XJs.
I am very pleased with using Bluetooth to stream music from my Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone to my Meridian sound system. My entire library of over 1,600 songs is on my smartphone's micro sd card, and Bluetooth streaming couldn't be easier to use and it sounds great to me. I like not knowing what song is next, so I set my smartphone to play songs (instead of albums or artists) and to shuffle. If I don't like what's next, I use my left thumb to press the >> button on the steering wheel until I find a song I want to listen to. If I want to, I can listen to albums. I like that Bluetooth music streaming starts automatically when I start the engine, provided I have Bluetooth turned "on" on my smartphone. And it seems like Bluetooth music streaming doesn't quickly deplete my phone battery, and because there's an icon on the dash showing phone battery charge remaining, I can recharge it in the car if need be.
For me, Bluetooth music streaming is the way to go. I guess I could upload my favorite 10 CDs, but why bother?

Thanks Stuart, I agree Blue Tooth is a very good solution. The difference though is with Blue Tooth you cannot see or manage playlists on the car's screen. Instead you must pick up the phone. You can start/stop and change songs from the screen and the wheel controls, but no browsing, etc.... Loading music onto USB thumb drive does allow for all functions including browsing right on the car's screen. I'm a happy Jaguar owner but acknowledge this car is light years behind the competition in the technology it offers.
