Default Navigation update

I noticed today that Navteq offers a maps update now for our cars via a USB drive. Has anyone ever purchased a map update for their XJ? I vaguely recall my sales person mentioning that map updates were free as part of the regular scheduled maintenance but I forgot to ask when I was in for service last month.

Does anyone know if map updates are included?

As far as I know, map updates are never included.

Default Navigation Update

Just as I'm reading your post I get an email from Jaguar offering free shipping if I buy the navigation map update for $279.00 before year end. So much for the free upgrade, I guess.

Default Navigation update

I received the same email today to purchase the navigation update. I have never updated the navigation in my last 3 cars which were mercedes. I don't use my navigation often. Has anyone found these updates useful or necessary? I currently have a 2012 xjl. There has been other threads on this forum mentioning various emails/ upgrades from jaguar for various upgrades. In my opinion it sounds like some kind of scam or scheme to get you into the dealership. If they were real and necessary they would already have your vin # instead of the email I got which asks for the Vin #. Any thoughts?

I try to update the maps on my cars every couple years, but never found a need for annual updates. Where I live and work, there is still a lot of active housing and business development work and thus new roads being added all the time so the updates are worth it to me. I rarely use the POI function of the built-in nav though and prefer to use my phone for those lookups.
