I've always heard from those in the "business" that unless you moved out of your comfort geographic area or the software/maps were several (3+ years) old, not to bother with the expense. Now, if your "home" geographic area has undergone significant changes (new exits/onramps/etc..) in the past year, then you may want to reconsider.

As for me, I probably would use the $299 on something that's going to get you a little more bang for your money (clear coat protection on the vehicle, a really nice exterior/interior detail)...or a very nice night out with that significant other *grin*

Smile New Map????

You answered your own question...I will just now update my 2003 map only because we have a number of new developments throughout the state since 2003 but my old map was fine. Your common sense is giving you the answer!! No...you do not need a new map!!

Default Navigation

Not sure f its worth the upgrade.
I have a 2006 XJ8 and bought the newest DVD around 2011 thinking it might help update maps with new construction and the like. Haven't noticed much difference.
Does anyone out there know if the address format can be edited in saved /previous destinations menu so that I can recognize all of my addresses at a glance. It saves the streets and many of my previous destinations are unrecognizable. Pierre

Unhappy Worth it? The Jury is still out.

I had the new Nav update, recently made available, installed because the used XJL I bought was a 2011, thus three years old, I live in in NC, whereas the original owner lived in FL, and the area in which I live (Mooresville) has experienced rapid growth and many new roads in recent years. Worth it? Let's just say I still use my seven inch Garmin in my '11 XJL until I'm more comfortable with the hideously slow and cumbersome NAV unit that comes on the Jaguar.Time will tell, as I eventually learn to use voice command technology, because digital manipulation of the current unit is so s-l-o-w that it puts me to sleep.

Also something to consider the nav update might also update the interface like it did on my 2007 Range Rover HSE. I update to 2011 and the interface changed a bit.
