Default No Start, only click

Hello All,

I have a 2011 Jaguar XJ that has come into a intermittent problem recently. When I get into the vehicle, I get normal power and start up screens, however the car will simply not start when pressing the engine start button. Sometimes the car turns on after 4-5 tries sometimes it takes 10 minutes of continuously pressing the button to get it started. All I get is a click but everything else works normally(start up screen, aux power). I have two key fobs with new batteries and ruled that out being the problem as they both are able to lock/unlock and start the aux power of the vehicle. Brake lights turn on when brakes are depressed, so that may rule out the brake switch. Battery is under a year old so doubt that may be it. Is this a possible starter problem? And is it a big job if it is? Thank you for any help! Happy Holidays!

It seems like you have problem in starter motor. If you hear click sound from engine bay when you press the start button (ask somebody to listen, since it is hard to hear inside), then i believe that your starter motor itself or the solenoid sharing the power for motor are busted. The click comes from solenoid, but even solenoid pulls, the contacts can be bad. It is not (normally) serviceable, so you need compete starter motor.
Starter motor with solenoid are one package and most cases when you purchase one, the seller give you discount if you give old one back for re-furbish.
Here are a good video how starter motor works:

+1 on the previous post. It could be the starter failing, Especially the START/STOP feature if enabled is very hard on starter. It shortens the lifespan of a starter. Or it could be other issue, like corrosion on contacts or loose bolt contact, like the battery post (+ - )or electrical contacts on starter. Clean & tighten all connections involved.

2011 doesn't have STOP/START. That feature began with the 2013 models

Have the battery load tested.

The last starter motor I had to replace on a Jaguar was on an 88 XJS about 30 years ago. Never seen a modern Jaguar with a bad starter.

Get a DVOM and do a voltage drop test at the starter motor before you go replacing any parts.
