Hey guys so today I got p0018 on my car said restricted performance, but that went away . Car still drove as it did before .. felt no loss in power .. cleared the code .. hasn’t come back. The last time it did this was a few months ago . And it was under the same weather conditions when it happened .. 3 or so minutes after Cold start ,weather was in the mid 60s .. ik this code can be really bad or really no major ... any help thanks !

 

Random DTCs can be caused by a failing or weak battery. What is the voltage across the battery terminals with the ignition in the OFF position when checked with a voltmeter?

 

The battery has been tested by the dealer ship and is good . I initially thought that as well .

There are no extended codes (sub types) for this DTC.

It isn't something that is going to disappear for more than 2 "trips" with a code clear so I'd first suspect any of the following:
1. an out-of-range signal triggering the event
2. your code reader inaccurately reporting the DTC
3. partially discharged battery when the vehicle was started

Thanks , the restricted performance goes away after 5 seconds , the check engine light stays on .... The first time this happened, the check engine light Went away on its own when I restarted the engine which I found weird .... that was months prior to this incident. I have been driving the car since the Code , but it hasn’t come back .

 

I have received a P0018 a couple of times this winter, restricted performance, engine light, both go away by themselves after a bit of driving. It is cold here. So I am going to replace a camshaft position sensor per the code reader. It says Bank 2 Sensor A. Is that the front of engine driver side? There are 3 on the motor. Thanks
