Default P0101

OK, got a new problem with the car that is very intermittent. I am getting the P0101 code about once a tank (sometimes twice). Driving the car hard doesn't cause it to come in. Ironically, it normally comes in when driving the car gently. I have hooked up my ELM327 unit with the Torque app and monitored the MAF sensor and from what I can tell, it is almost like the throttlebody is closing but the air flow is remaining up. So, this would lead me to believe that somehow a MAF sensor is responding slowly (if that is even possible). Does anyone know of a way to test the MAF sensors for a condition like this? If you do your normal tests, I am sure the sensors will pass all those as I don't have a problem 99% of the time.

Using the Torque app, what I notice is the app putting red circles on the MAF signal about 50% of the time when I am getting off of the gas pedal (ie, letting the car coast). If I get off the gas easy, then it won't give me the red circles. If I am on the throttle say 10% and then get off of it quickly, it will throw up the red circle. I am figuring what is causing the error code to come in is getting off of the gas quickly from a higher throttle position (ie, more open) and this is causing the error to be present for 3 cycles which would be enough to trip the CEL. I am going to do more playing with the car on the way home tonight, but looking for some insight from someone that may have had this same sort of issue in the past.

Did you have any luck figuring this out? My car seems to be doing about the same thing. P0101 seems to be the only code.

jhn, I figured mine out. I was trying to open up the intake some and I installed the K&N filters and also removed the end of the intake that runs from the air box to the openings above the radiator. This opened up the air flow too much, resulting in the mismatch between the MAF air flow and the throttle position when I got off the gas too fast.

I would try first cleaning the MAF sensors. See if that helps you out. After that, have you done any modifications to the intake?

I have not done any modifications to the intake and have tried cleaning the MAF sensor. I even bought another MAF sensor but still have the P101 code.

When you bought another MAF sensor, is it the same calibration as the original one? They will look the same from the S/C engine to the N/A engine, but the number on the top of sensor will be different. Make sure all connections are tight, and no vacuum leaks are present. Double check the MAF sensor you bought, make sure it has the same numbers on the top as the original one, if it is the same, its possible you have a wiring fault, or not connected properly.
