Anyone tried plastidipping the grille without removing the entire bumper?

On my previous XF, I could just loosen the bumper from the top and insert a cardboard behind the grille.

But this prove to be impossible on the XJ as it just won't budge. So thinking if someone else has any tricks up their sleeves.
