Default Petrol vapour smell

Hello again Everyone,

After sorting out issue with suspension I was hoping there will be no more issues for a while - and I was wrong!
I'm having strong petrol smell coming somewhere from the right hand side bank under the bonnet. When I have my windows down I can smell it while driving, when I stop on traffic lights I can smell it even more. I have noticed the smell started after I had a company doing the engine carbon clean. I was wondering if they could mess something up. Worth noting that I could not fill the car up with petrol after the carbon clean, it took 20 minutes to put 50 litres in, but after few fills it sorted itself out. Could be the EVAP system issue? Maybe the canister solenoid purge valve as its located where the smell comes from? Perhaps dodgy injectors? (I had to replace one of them a while ago as it has failed on cylinder 4). Car is XJ 5.0 SC, 2012, 79k miles. No error codes stored in ECU. Any help guys please? Been so helpful in the past - hopefully I can resolve this issue with your extensive knowledge. Many thanks,

Sorry not much help? Can you add some detail as to what exactly was done when they did the "Engine Carbon Clean"? Usually to clean the back side of the intake valves requires walnut shell blasting AND that is done with the SC off the engine to gain access to the back of the valves. This means a lot of disassembly was done to perform the service.

Now again without any details I could be all wrong on this? But removing the SC does require the fuel lines to be disconnected and that for sure could be your problem?

Anything visible under the hood when you smell this? Hoping there might be a simple leak some where? Maybe take the engine cover off and drive a bit?
Finally I suggest to return the car to the shop as your problems started after they did the work so I would hold them responsible? The problem with this is how long ago did they do this work?

Thanks for your message. There is a new technique called "induction cleaning" which cleans the valves without need of removing supercharger and uses vacuum line to inject the cleaner. I really don't want these people to touch my car anymore. I would just replace injectors as they need doing soon anyway, but it is expensive job without knowing 100%.

Yes that does not work and is sold because it's easy and fast. Walnut shell blasting is really the only reliable way to remove the carbon.
Did you camera the before and after to see what it did?
