Waiting for my set of Michelin’s to come in. In the meantime I went to the car wash again, fishtailed again. After that winter mode became my friend. They should really call it Pirelli mode, LOL!

Since organic components have pretty much dissappeared from tyres, the age effects for the grip and also temperature the tyres have been reached. The older tyres are or been extremely hot, less grip they offer.
This are very well notable on winter tyres. Unused but 7 year old winter tyres are like hard plastic on clear ice, when new ones bite.
I have had one set of Pirellis, long time ago, and i could not say bad or good back then. Replaced very old and slippery Continentals, so it was step up anyway.
Michelin´s are safe choice, can´t go wrong on that.

The problem here lies with your expectations. You have a situation where it's the end of summer, which usually makes for slippery roads, then the tires are wet from the car wash and slippery with soap. Finally you have a supercharged V8 with RWD.

There are no tires on the planet which aren't going to slip under those circumstances.

The Dunlap's I have on now, no I don't know the model, work just fine. I also have them on my wife's car and an 89 635,they all work fine, although the ones on my 6 are high performance, recommended by the guy I have been buying from for 30 years are a blast, 75-80 on the wet road and this thing is planted, also throws a giant rooster tail, but stays stuck to the road....so far...

Thought I’d report back. Been driving on my new Michelin AS3+ for a week now. They work as advertised: quiet, smooth, and sticky. Only sad thing is the crazy burnouts are now gone. In my opinion they are even stickier than the Hankkok Ventus V12s on my other set of rims.

All the best.

Modern tire technology is really nothing short of magical, and with a proper modern summer tire it is entirely reasonable to expect them to maintain grip while wet and on a cold summer morning when temperature a bit down. MP4S do this.

I also don't expect hard cranking on cold days due to carburetor issues. I also don't expect double-clutching to get into gear. However all of these were expected in the past.

In this way I expect tires sold in 2020 perform like it is 2020 instead of being stuck in 80s.

Default Tires

I have replaced my Dunlop’s with Vredestine Quatrac Pros. What an amazing difference. Road noise disappeared and wet traction is Incredible. Check them out.
