Oh yeah, all of mine are like that. Just wait until you get dust or a smudge on them. They're impossible to clean! Not to mention my fingernail has indented my volume knob a few times.

It's just the plastic that they are made out of. The '13+ XJ's use a smooth plastic that doesn't have this issue.

The stickiness reminds me of the switchgear from the old Ferrari 348's.

Default Sticky switches covered under warranty

As reported by Cars.com, "sticky" interior control switches is a known issue on 2010-2015 Jaguar XJ models from VIN V00001 through V83459. Jaguar issued Technical Service Bulletin No. JTB00447 instructing dealers to replace all affected interior switches and trim panel parts free of charge under the new vehicle or extended warranty (CPO), whichever applies. Call your dealer and reference TSB No. JTB00447.

Drivers may notice that interior control switches and areas feel sticky to the touch. Affected switches and areas are the steering wheel controls, air-conditioning controls, radio control panel, luggage compartment release, center division trim panel, transmission control, rear console climate control switch pack, front and rear window switches, and front seat control switches. This is due to a clear lacquer coating peeling or the surfaces becoming sticky when exposed to high temperatures and/or humidity.

Default Yep

Covered under warranty. Had mine changed out last week. Replacement parts are back ordered. Took a couple months for my dealership to get them all in. 2 days in shop to get them all changed out. Worth the wait. Huge improvement in looks.

It's not my buttons that have gotten sticky (yet) but the surround on either side of the control display has. Every bit of dust sticks to it. Anyone else having this problem and is that part of the replacement campaign?

I live in Durban, S Africa. Normally fairly warm here, i noticed stickiness from very early on. But..the temperatures here lately have been averaging 30 deg C +!

All the coating has become a magnet for everything. it's melted to the extent that I can scrape it off down to the hard plastic, which, if this has to look decent, is going to be a lot of work.
My car is out of warranty, so replacement parts are not an option.

Sorey, but I'm not going to be much help. I believe I remember reading somewhere where someone used Googone on a rag and was able to wipe off the sticky coating. It was a slow and time consuming process. Jaguar totally dropped the ball on this as far as I'm concerned. I parked my car at my yacht club, put a big sign in the window, that said...Thinging about buying a Haguar? Call me first, or stop by and see me. And I put my slip number down on my sign. I then showed people my dash and the emails from Jaguar, and then let them form their own opinions. I then cancelled my Range Rover order and have never been happier. Dont get me wrong, loved the Jag, but the support the I received from Jaguar USA SUCKED and was an embarrassment to the entire brand.

Good luck .

You can fix this yourself and several methods have been posted. Search for sticky buttons. You can get them 100% clean with some elbow grease.

Neutrogena Makeup Removing wipes do a great job removing the sticky soft-touch coating - a bit time-consuming, but they don't remove the white paint from the buttons. Simply rub the wipe on the button surface then, as it softens, use you fingernail to scrape the sticky coating which will turn into soft, rubbery bits of goo which can be wiped off. And because these wipes are for cosmetic use you don't need to wear gloves. Before using them I tried GooGone, Goof Off, olive oil and detergent, etc. This was the only method that worked.

Thank god for your good decision. If you think the Jaguar side of the JLR family is poor, you'd be thoroughly disgusted with the Land Rover (Range Rover in particular) side. My 2003 (BMW-heritage) was a handful, and my 2012 as beautiful as it is, has had the transmission-transfer case splines strip due to what was diagnosed as no grease on the splines when assembled at the LR factory, requiring complete rebuild of the transmission AND transfer case, to which JLRNA completely disavowed and disowned.
Now I'm looking at a coolant mystery that coincides with random but consistent misfires, my guess being that the head bolts were never properly torqued when it was built, and now coolant is seeping through into some of the cylinders. the LR side of JLR really is terribly unreliable, the worst I've ever had in my opinion. And I'm a Reliability Engineer by profession.
But since I also enjoy turning a wrench, I deal with it. I feel bad for the majority that doesn't.
