Question on Oil Leak 2012 XJ Base
Has anyone tried FIRESTONE FIREHAWK INDY 500 Tires on their XJ ? I have a 2012 XJ Base 5.0L 19" wheels,
I like the pattern of this tire and Tire Rack gives them a very good write up, I live in Jupiter, Florida so a Summer Tire is okay
Any experiences with this tire will be appreciated.

Hi, I have a 2012 Jaguar XJ Base 5.0L engine, factory 19" wheels and I am ready for a complete tire change I do not like the P Zero that's already on the car so any suggestions will be appreciated.
I am in Florida so could be All Season or Summer Tires, I need a good tread pattern, quite ride, good road holding in dry and wet conditions and reasonable price.

2012 XJ Base 5.0L V8 engine, Has anyone tried to replace their car battery or does it have to go back to the dealer? Also any suggestions for a good oil filter that doesn't cost a fortune??
scottjr1, no, the car does not need to go back to the dealership to get a new battery. With that being said, you have 2 options when you do the battery. A lot of shops will connect up a small secondary battery to maintain your programming in the car and then swap out the battery. The issue with this is simply that you need to make sure that the positive battery post never touches the body of the car. If it does, excessive currents can cause damage to various components. What fails is random. If you let the car go completely dead and then swap the battery, you will need to reprogram the emergency brake and the windows. You will also loose any stored information like MPG, distance traveled, radio stations, etc.
As for an oil filter, what are you considering as being a fortune. Yes, the dealership ones go for around $85 each. If you look on e-bay (for example), you can find them for around $16-18 each. Still a fair bit of money if you ask me, but it is far cheaper than what the dealership wants. Since you are mentioning oil and filters, you may want to read the topics on oil recommendations.This can get spendy in itself because of the stringent requirements that Jaguar put on the oil. I will let you make your own decision on that.

Brutal, yes, you are correct in that if you want an immediate reset of the charging system, you will need to either kill the car power wise or use a computer to reset the car so it learns the new battery immediately. granted, I have had an experience where my car ran the battery very low. and after putting it on a charger, the battery seemed to hold a charge fine. It is my understanding that even if you just drop a new battery into the car, the car will maintain a sufficient charge on the battery and over the course of a few starts, it will learn the new battery with all being good. Am I saying that just tossing in the battery is a 100% correct way to do things? No. But, it seems to be good enough for those that don't have access to the SDD computer system. Maybe the 2013+ cars are a bit more sensitive to the programming aspect due to the auto start/stop feature. But, since the original question was dealing with a 2012 car, this is not a concern.

2012 XJ Base 5.0L V8 I am about to do the first non dealer oil and filter change, has anyone used one of the manual pumps to pump out the old oil as this seems to be the best and easiest way??
Also has anyone used the New Liqui-Moly 0W-20 which now appears to be authorized by Jaguar. I found the best supplier on line https://www.fcpeuro.com they also do many parts and accessories
for Jaguar and are very helpful they also do most EU cars.
What happens if the electric oil monitor doesn't work is there any other way to check the oil level??

Unfortunately, no, there is no other way to check the oil.
Yes, you could use a manual pump to get the oil out, but I prefer to let it drain from underneath, the old fashioned way.
I don't know anything about the new 0W-20, sorry. Still using the old Liqui-Moly.

scottjr1, when doing the oil change, you are going to want to get the car up to temp and then stop it and let it sit for about a half hour with the hood open. You want the oil warm, but not hot. You will find that this will allow you to pump out the oil in a rapid manner with little effort. I use an electric pump to suck the oil out of my car and I can notice a big difference in the time it takes between having cold oil and warm oil.
Like was said, if the computer oil level monitor is not working, then you will have to take your best guess. As a general rule, if you are replacing the filter, then 7.5 quarts of oil should put you at the top of the level range.
