Default Rear Touch Screen-how do I access it?

Hi all, I am new to Jaguar and just bought a 2012 XJ- It has a rear touch screen that is blank in the center which appears to be for climate control yet my front touch screen doesnt have the option "rear climate" as stated in the handbook. Maybe the screen is just for media not climate? Thanks for any help!

Hello Sonya, and welcome to the Jaguar Forum.
According to my 2011 owner's handbook, published in 2009, first you must access the front climate menu on the front touch screen, by selecting "Climate" in the middle of the home menu screen. On the right hand side of the screen, just below "Settings" and "Front Seats" you will find the "Rear Climate" selection. Select this to view the rear climate control menu. Note: if the climate control system is switched off, pressing AUTO will switch the climate system on.
The rear climate screen (on your front control screen) will then allow you to adjust left and right rear passenger temperature settings, direct air distribution to face and/or feet, and by selecting "Rear seats" on the right hand side of the screen, one can adjust the rear seat temperature and ventilation settings.
Below the "Rear seat" selection on the right hand side of your front screen one can select "Rear panel lock" to disable the rear climate control switches and prevent the rear passengers from adjusting their own rear climate settings, or re-enable the controls to them [depending on the maturity of the rear passengers ].
The screen on the REAR of your front seat center console (which is NOT a touch screen) will display the rear seat left and right passenger temperature, fan speed and ventilation distribution settings (unless the fan control is dialed to "off", in which case one must push either the left or right "Auto" button in the center of either rear temperature control knobs to reactivate the rear screen).
Other controls on the bottom of the rear console enable passengers to select full seat or backrest only ventilation and the ventilation temperature settings.
You might want to familiarize yourself with all of these rear seat controls, by setting in the rear seat and playing with them, so you can then instruct new rear passengers on how to best control their rear seat environment.
If I can be of any further help, let me know; my wife and I are only about a hour north of you, and all of these complicated XJ controls are frustrating to explain, no less learn, so we would be glad to meet and show a fellow Jaguar owning neighbor how to operate them.

Hi John, Thank you for the thorough response! My handbook sounds like the same as yours but doesnt match what my cars screen looks like in the pictures. The screen settings are different for some reason! I plan to stop in the dealership and have them walk me through some of these complicated settings! Just wondering what are your thoughts on the Navi system? I find it very cumbersome and unhelpful with POI's but I am so used to using a Garmen I may just need to get past the learning curve. Thank you again!

Hello Sonya,
Regarding the Navigation system provided on the XJ, I paid to have mine updated this past December, and still deem it totally inadequate. My recommendation is stay with your Garmin, the Jaguar navigation system is light years behind it.
