Default Rear Vanity Mirrors Help

Hey guys, I just bought a new-to-me 2014 XJL Supercharged a couple days ago. One thing I didn't notice when looking at the car was that the rear vanity mirrors are a little wack. One of them won't turn off the lights while the other won't turn on. They are also loose I believe? When i hit a bump or in stop and go traffic i can hear them rattling around (can't believe i didn't notice during the test drive). I saw on another thread that these mirrors should cost around $50 each and are an easy replace, but I cannot find any for under $120 for one. Can anyone help me on this issue?

It’s not a big deal. I’ve personally had to replace one of my vanity mirrors. You should be able to find one significantly cheaper than $120 on EBay. I live in the US, but I find that a lot of Jaguar parts are cheaper on EBay UK. If $120 happens to be the cheapest, contact the seller and see if they’ll take a lower price. There’s nothing complexed about a vanity mirror.

If you happen to find one, it’s a “do it yourself” 5 minute fix. They pry out easily. Be careful not to damage the headliner. You may need two considering that one light will not turn on. You may have to investigate that a little closer. It could be a blown bulb or lost continuity with a wire.

Going off of memory, I don’t believe that the rear vanity lights ever turn off while the vehicle is on. I think that they stay on the whole time even when the mirrors are in the up position. If I am wrong on this, someone chime in as I do not have access to my vehicle at the moment. Hope this helps.

Huh, that's kinda weird they don't turn off at all. Do you happen to have the part number for the vanity mirror as I've been scouring ebay for the past hour and cannot for the life of me find any. Thanks. Also, I'm in the US if it affects the part number.

The vanity mirrors should turn off when closed, but the mechanism that does so is easily broken. I had one that stayed on all the time, and one that did turn off. I managed to fix the one that didn't turn off - a hinge was broken and that's enough to stop the switch activating.

Even if they are broken so that they stay on all the time, power is cut when you lock the car. Another good reason to do that.

Ahh, okay. Thanks Mark. So maybe my mechanisms are damaged as well as mine will stay on until the power is cut.

The headliners primarily come in 2 colors; Black and Tan. Which color do you have?

I have a broken rear vanity hinge, and the rattle is driving me bonkers. Need to set aside time and see what I can do about it. Honestly, they aren't very useful, and look like they were added an afterthought in the design process. I'd just as soon glue it shut and be done with it.

Having spend hours fixing a broken one, I would suggest simply gluing it shut or replacing it completely. If gluing it shut, I'd disconnect it first, as it's almost certainly on all the time.
