Default Rotary Shifter Mod - Leaper Logo Under $6

Here's mine - click on the before and after thumbnails below to enlarge.

When in Park, the Leaper is horizontal, as in the photo below. When in Drive, the Leaper points forward, as if he is ready to pounce! I like that it is chrome and matches the rest of the surrounding trim perfectly and looks factory.

My thanks to Saul Chaplin of British Autowood, who provided this self-adhesive, micro-thin metal Leaper logo at a most reasonable price of $5.95 including S&H. Here's his website: British Autowood | Dashboard and Woodwork Restoration

You won't find this logo available for sale separately on his website. You'll have to call him at (407) 774-5332 to order it. Tell him that I wrote him up on the Forum and that I referred you. I have no interest in his business and he was helpful when I spoke with him and explained what I wanted to do.

Installation couldn't be easier. The sticker comes with the Leaper logo with the word JAGUAR below the Leaper. Simply cut them apart, leaving as much space between them as possible. There are 3 layers - bottom, middle, and top. First, peel off the bottom layer to expose the adhesive and stick the Leaper onto the shifter. Press it down tightly with your fingertip. Next, carefully remove the top clear layer that protects the micro-thin metal Leaper. You're done!

Stuart

I just called Saul Chaplin at the number you provided and spoke with him. He claimed no knowledge of the item you described, and quoted me a price of $34.95 plus shipping.

Probably not worth his time to send out for $6!

I'm puzzled - they open on my Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone and my HP PC at home.

I'm puzzled again. I have no explanation for his response.

amcdonal86 could be right.

Default Price?

He probably realizes that it was priced so cheap, and therefore raised it. The problem with this is that he put you in an bad position on the forum, stated that he had no idea of this (which is according to your post false), and lastly lost a customer here, not for price, but rather for principle!

Good luck,
Joe

I think the $34.95 price is for a new disk topper (burl or black) with the logo, and not just for the logo separately. See: Jaguar XF XFR XJ XK Walnut Burl Topper Emblem for Gear Shift Knob Rotary Control | eBay

Jaguar XF,XFR,XJ,XK Walnut Burl Topper,Emblem for Gear Shift Knob Rotary Control

This is Saul's ad on eBay. I think he can ad the Leaper logo to it.

Stuart-
Perhaps you could contact Saul and get him to sell us the product you wrote about at the $4.95 price, as a Jaguar Forum Special. If successful, let us know. Regardless, thanks for all your efforts.

John,

What makes you think I would have any more success than you did? It appears that he realized he made a mistake and decided to not repeat it.

Sorry, but I wouldn't feel comfortable calling Saul as you requested, since it is not my place to tell someone how to run their business. Since he makes more profit selling the topper than the logo, why would he want to continue to sell just the logo?

Default Update - microthin leaper logo source

Updating my previous posts...

Microthin metal Jaguar Leaper logo stickers are available in 2 sizes from modSticker: Jaguar Metal Logo Sticker - modSticker.com. Small is $1.99 and medium is $2.99 plus S&H.

I bought the small size and simply cut the word JAGUAR off, although it will fit with it on if that's what you prefer. I just prefer the leaper by itself. The leaper fits perfectly across the rotary shifter. It is a sticker, and has a clear plastic top layer that you peel off after you stick it on. Because it is microthin metal, it is very fragile and you need to be careful handling it. Once the clear plastic top layer is removed, all you have left is the outline of the leaper, with nothing inside. I make a conscious effort to keep my hand off that logo so I don't mess it up.

I also put it on the shift knob of my 2009 XKR:

I see where you put this on the shifter, howeer where did you place the other one? Thanks and is it going to do perm. damage, or that flimsy?

slojotaa,

I don't understand your question "...where did you place the other one?" I bought 2 small leaper logo stickers, cut the JAGUAR letters off both, and put one leaper on my XJ's rotary shifter and the other leaper on my XK's shift knob.

There's so little adhesive that I doubt that the stickers will do any damage to my XJ's piano black shifter disc or my XKR's leather shift knob. If you decide to remove them, I'm sure a little leather cleaner will take off any remaining adhesive.

Are they "flimsy"? I don't think so, but because they are microthin metal I'll let you decide. How long they will last will depend on how you treat them. At $2 bucks each you can afford to buy a few spares just in case.

Of all the mods I've done, this is the biggest bang for the buck. I get lots of compliments.

Stuart, that was exactly what I was looking for. You placed on the two types of levers, which is a nice, simple, yet pretty good touch.

Appreciate the post.

Hello,

I've not been on this site for about 6 months, so just to clear up any confusion in this old thread
Yes the metal logos themselves are cheap enough, as you can see they can be bought from Hong Kong too. The $34.95 is for the replacement disc, veneered in walnut burl and finished, with the logo underneath the finish, as per: Jaguar XF XFR XJ XK Walnut Burl Topper Emblem for Gear Shift Knob Rotary Control | eBay

Cheers,
Saul

Answers to your question have already been posted. I guess you didn't read this entire thread.

If you want only the Leaper logo, see the link in my Post #12, above.

If you want a new topper disk (burl or black, with the Leaper logo), contact Saul at British Auto Wood. See the link in his Post #17, above.
