2012 XJ, 70k miles. I had to suddenly brake on interstate and the right front flexible line burst. I’ve never had that happen on a car and certainly not on a 10 yr old one, and these are stainless braided lines. Amazing. Anybody else ever seen this on their XJ (or XF)?
Any chance the line got damaged in that spot from a foreign object? I haven't done the brakes on this model yet so not sure how much the lines are exposed to the road.
Burst pressure for one of those lines has to be way above the normal operating pressures the system is capable of. Seems like a weak spot would be needed in the line one way or another. Either from external damage or a material defect. If I had to put money on one of those two my bet would be on external damage as the culprit. I don't see how a material defect could last that long.
Glad you were able to avoid any "serious" result from the failure.
