Default Service schedule

Hi all,

I have a 2011 Xj with 65000 miles on it. it is the 3ltr diesel portfolio and it has had 4 services.

The service light has just come on and the girl in my local jaguar dealership said the fith service is a big one and said it is £1400 "belts chains the lot" is what she said.

Although i don't doubt her i thought i would just check in with you all. Is that the right price? is it due that sevice? different websites seem to report different things!

See attached. Pages 28 and 29 show the Jag service interval activities. If this is your fifth service you should be on the 75,000 mile service
It doesn't look like that much more than other years. It may vary by region, or your dealer may have a more liberal view on what needs to be done. I'd simply ask them for a full list of what needs to be changed and confirmation of which parts are formal jag service requirements and what bits they are 'recommending'

You could also explore using an indy specialist. Will be a lot cheaper...

It's important to distinguish between scheduled maintenance items and the repair of wearing parts such as brakes and bushes.

Many UK Jaguar Dealers are offering fixed price servicing. Here's the link to my local Stratstone in Newcastle-upon-Tyne:

Jaguar Fixed Price Servicing

Major service on the diesel is £329 but this doesn't include the cambelt. The earlier model is shown at £325 so no reason to think yours should be too different. Start adding brake pads, fluid changes etc and the costs soon ramp up.

Steve, sounds awfully expensive for a lot of "check this for any leaks". The drive belt is simply the serpentine belt which would probably be due. Not knowing the 3.0L diesel engine all that well, I would assume it is very similar to other engines and this would be a 30 minute job and a fairly cheap belt. I think the price that GGG is stating is more in line with what I would expect. If they are saying that your timing chain needs to be replaced, then I would be definitely asking them if that is "Jaguar recommended" or "dealership recommended". I bet you will find that they are replacing the coolant and not even checking the coolant because it is the dealership's recommendation. Sure they want to replace your coolant as this is a fairly easy task and they make a lot more money off of the service (using this as an example).

For the price your dealership quoted you, you could fly me to you, I could get the parts, do the maintenance, and still more then likely save you a few bucks.

The 3 litre diesel has a timing belt, a serpentine belt, and, (I believe), a fuel pump belt at the rear of the engine. I don't know the service interval details, but the car is now 5 years old, so the service for a car that old may say the timing belt needs replacing, (there is also a mileage limit too). Replacing these belts is labour-intensive especially the one at the back of the engine. If the car is at a main agent, you will be paying main agent labour rates, but many dealers used to offer a discount on parts and labour if the car was over about 3 or 4 years old. Royles of Wilmslow did this when I first had my X350 in 2010. They are no longer a main agent, but are an approved Jaguar service agent.

In view of this I don't think the price quoted is unreasonable, but you do need to find out what work this price covers in writing. Just the receptionist saying "belts, chains, the lot" is not detailed enough, and actually misleading as there are no chains in the engine, or anywhere else for that matter.
