Tom, from the sounds of things, your wiper stalk has bit the dust and will need to be replaced. The stalk has a little switch in it that when you pull the stalk, it sends power to the motor to make it move. Once the motor is out of its "home" position, there is a switch inside the wiper motor that keeps the power applied until it reaches home again. At that point, the motor looses power until another power pulse is sent.

I agree with Chris. Replace the stalk first and see if it's fixed.
Should be a simple repair too.

Thank you guys for your reply, I will try that and report back, from what I read it doesn't seem to be a common problem on the X351, maybe its one off

Hi Guys, just an update, I booked the car in and it will go next week to the dealer, I experienced something really strange, the other day every thing worked on the wiper stalk then the next day no single wipe function working as well as position 2 for continuous wipe and position 3 for fast wipe was not working, only in position 1 with timing function was working I am now completely lost could this be the problem with the stalk?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
By the way the lighting stalk is in perfect working order every thing work as it should be

TomWhite, it is still the stalk. It shares a few common wires and depending on what is failing, it can cause randomness like you are seeing.
