My understanding is that the difference lies in the venting of the cells. When the cells are charged rapidly, they offgas. The Aux batteries have individual cell venting, while the ETX ones have one vent overall.
From Deka / East Penn's FAQ :
Q. The AUX battery looks like an ETX
battery. Are they the same? Can the
AUX be substituted with a
Power Sports battery?
A. No. The AUX battery has a different design.
One major differences is in the venting
system. Do not substitute an ETX or other
Power Sports batteries for an AUX! The ETX
has a single point venting system that works
great for Power Sports applications. However,
the AUX has an Individual Cell Venting
System that optimizes valve-regulation to
maximum efficiency in auxiliary power
support functions.
I believe the battery you bought is a ETX-class battery, although they call it something different.
Let me again question your logic, and expertise, when you use words like, "small". Sounds like left-coast logic about other subjects that leaves facts in the rear-view mirror, doesn't it?

I trust Deka / East Penn, as they're probably America's best battery manufacturer.
So, I ordered a motorcycle battery online for $35, shipped. I am not sure if it is AGM, but it has gel type electrolite, so nothing to spill/evaporate or service. It’s 12 Amp, instead of 14 like the original. I screwed the existing connectors to the posts with supplied bolts. Works like a charm at 10% cost of a replacement from Jaguar. I can post pics of the connection
, if you’d like. The battery came with a built-in voltmeter, two. Naturally, from China, but can’t beat it at this price, even if it only lasts for a couple of years...

IMO, it doesn't make manufacturing sense that Exide would create a whole different design and production process for the small number of Aux batteries that Jaguar buys, but that's simply my opinion. I also don't see any more vent holes in the OEM battery than I do in the one I bought...and have a hard time trying to rationalize that only one cell is vented.
The battery I bought and installed eliminated the dashboard light and saved me hundreds of dollars.
When Deka said to NOT use anything except the OEM battery, what did they say could happen if somebody did? This is the crux of our discussion.
Now that's pretty cool to have a built in voltmeter on the battery!
I added a USB charger port/volt meter to my 2014 and really like staying informed about the voltage level of the car.
So cheap at about $6!

Hello Etant!
We were able to buy the auxiliary battery and have it shipped for $158. Got it from Autospares.eu on Ebay bought for about $158. Exide 151 starter battery start stop auxiliary. they were prompt. Only took a few days. Had it installed and it
fixed all of our problems. Jim and Gwynne

Reason: additions.
Good deal, Randy. Your eBay for $65 beats my WalMart/NAPA one for $95, and they both fit inside that tray.too. BTW, for those concerned about venting, don't be. I cut off the top of my OEM battery and noted that every cell vents to the top section of the battery. Where the vent hole to the outside doesn't matter since it opens to the top section.
Had a heck of a time trying to find this battery for my son's 2014 Evoque. I ended up using a ACDelco AUX-12 AGM auxillary battery in place. I saved 200 over the price of the Land ROver4 battery. The only thing we had to do to make it fit was cut the cable ends from the vehicle and crimp on eyelets to fit the new battery ( 15 min job eyelets are 1.00 ea.) The AUX12 now has a different style of hook up, threaded hole included on the terminals
Just ordered one of these for our 2013 XJ, tried to find one that would work here in our area and nothing....nobody carried anything like it.....so went with this one since it has poles and the vent hole....now to wait 2 weeks for delivery to Texas.....
Replaced the auto start/stop battery this week with a Uplus EB14C-4. It's a 12v 12Ah AGM battery. It is not vented however, but neither was the SigmasTek battery I installed in 2019. I bought this for $42.99 + tax on amazon.com. I bought 4 gauge wires for $9.99 +tax.
Also I found an exact replacement for the expensive group 49 H8 main battery. I bought it at walmart.com for $149.99 +tax.
Weize AGM vented battery
900 CCA 160 RC 95aH
36 month warranty
This battery usually is at least $179.99 by Everstart from Walmart, $199.99 from Duracell at Sam's. Most other brands are at least $200+
OK, I jut replaced the auxiliary battery with OE Exide EK 151 and it fits perfectly. It was darn hard to get this for a reasonable price or quickly in USA until I found Northside Imports in Miami. Very easy to get a discount account and then only $155 for what would have been much more to ship from Europe or bigger delay from US Supplier. In case it helps anyone... The car definitely runs much smoother now and so I tend to agree with some posters that these smaller auxiliary batteries do play a bigger role than perhaps first appears. When I tried just disconnecting one of the terminals as advised on this car, the car did not like it... YMMV.
BTW - is there any specific protocol to best reset the car's electronics after installing a new Auxiliary OE Exide battery?

Many thanks all...
I didn't do any special procedures when replacing the auxiliary battery, no programming was needed. I just took the old one out and dropped in the new one.
For replacing the main H8 battery, I just kept it connected to power through a separate battery which I connected to the charging post on the right side to the engine bay (for opening the trunk or jump starting the battery, when the main battery is dead). I didn't lose any of the prior data (trip odometer, radio station presets) and the car ran fine afterward without any problems with the throttle having to relearn.
