Default Spark Plug Job

Hey All,

I was just wondering if anyone out there has tackled a spark plug change on their XJ V6. I'm curious to know if you need any specailty tools or if there are any quarks in the process that would perhaps warrant a professional to do it.

My 2014 XJL has reached it 156 000km interval and I'm thinking about tackling the serpentine, superchanger and spark plug jobs myself. Jag has quoted their service 6 package to be a $2,000 job (including oil change) but I know I can get this done myself for about $250.

Any advice about this topic would be appreciated.

It's a relatively easy job once you get the sound insulation covers off.

Use the forum search function as this has been covered already.

There have been lots of threads about this with lots of useful information. Mostly on the V8s but the process should be the same for the V6. Search for Big Will's step-by-step thread.

I did go through it and like you said XJ8JR alot of it has been only V8. Any information about the appropiate spark plug tool.

The spark plugs on the AJ126 require a 14mm spark plug socket.

The coil packs are held in place by Torx screws and should be tightened to no more than 5 Nm when reinstalling them.

In addition to the 14mm spark plug socket, use a locking extension so the spark plug socket can be easily removed once each spark plug is replaced.

The procedure for replacing the spark plugs is the same for both the AJ133 and AJ126.

Are you mentioning this, in reference to the possibility of the rubber insert in most spark plug sockets' ability to grip the plug pretty tightly, then stay attached to the plug, when the ratchet and extension are withdrawn?

I'm referencing using a locking extension so one is able to remove the 14mm spark plug socket from the body of the spark plug. A quality socket should not allow the soft insert to remain on the spark plug.
