static noise on AM radio band
I have a 2011 Jaguar xjl . The sound from the FM band of the radio is good.
The am band on this radio has static noise.
What can be done to get the am band sound not to have static noise?

ziva, odds are, you would need to add a noise filter to the power input to the radio. It is a common issue that the noise spikes generated by the coils is what is causing the static noise that you are hearing. But, like was mentioned, this is an inherent problem with AM.
Thermo,
Thank you for your thoughts.
I am still living in the last century listening to AM radio.
Strange, I do not hear any static from the AM band from the radio in my 1990 Mercedes SL.
Any thoughts?

AM radio static interference can come from a variety of sources. As Thermo mentioned, one possibility is the electrical energy produced by the ignition system (spark plugs, coils, wires, etc.). But there are other possible causes. See: https://www.howacarworks.com/accesso...o-interference
My 1960 Corvette came from the factory with chrome plated steel shielding that covered the entire ignition system - distributor, coil, and spark plug wires. Why? Because the body was fiberglass, which did not suppress radio frequency interference.
The reason that the AM radio your 1990 R129 MBZ SL is static-free is because the body is made from steel, which effectively shields that RF electrical interference radiation from the AM radio. Since that car was over-engineered, I wouldn't be surprised if the radio circuitry also included noise suppression filters.
The body of your 2011 XJL is aluminum, which should block RFI. Maybe just not as well as steel.
