2015 3.0 supercharged with 52K. The original pump is going fine. The dealer did replace the thermostat housing last year for a slight leak (under CPO warranty).

I'm planning to change the pump at 60K in about a year.

Should have know that last post would jinx it. Back from a 50 mile drive just now, strong smell of coolant and there's a ring of it in the engine compartment that corresponds to what you'd get if it was flung out from the water pump.

Turned out to be the front y pipe. Replaced under CPO at zero dollars cost to me. There’s an updated design.

I’ve still got the original rear crossover pipe, better replace that soon I guess.

That's a good outcome but I am surprised the water pump was not leaking yet? I also still have the rear water manifold with the old style seams to replace on my car.
51K miles and counting.

I wish they'd called me and given me the opportunity to get the rear manifold replaced at the same time, while the S/C was off. Guess they don't think like that.

Yes that's exactly where I ended up. Got the water pump and front plastic pipes done under warranty but at that time I did not know about the rear manifold part. Again this forum educated me and I got the part for I think only about $60 and realized I should have had that done at the same time.

Now I have driven another 20K miles or so after the water pump replacement and don't really want to pull the SC just for the rear manifold. So have added changing the SC fluid and a front snout replacement as mine has been clunking for about 20K-25K miles. And maybe, just maybe a smaller upper pulley and a ported SC since the SC will be off anyway.

How is your front snout?? Any clunking?

Oh and I have plans to block off the ridiculous symposer crap too.

The S/C coupling was replaced last year, when they also replaced the thermostat housing for a slight leak. All covered.

However, I still hear a slight clunk when switching the engine off.

Sometimes though I wish I didn't have the CPO warranty as I would just replace all the plastic pipes, water pump, in one go and be done with it - instead of this piecemeal approach.

I guess yours is a 5.0? Mines a 3.0 so at least the rear pipe can be done without taking the S/C off.

Default Water Pump Concerns

I have a 2019 XJL Collection that I purchased new from my local dealership. It has just over 20k miles on it. I’ve been reviewing this thread and hear of Jaguar “redesigning” some of the water pump parts. Would my car fall into that category, or should I expect problems around the 35k-50k mile range?
Thanks in advance!!

Keep an eye on it but yes you should have the latest and greatest stuff from the factory. Now that does NOT mean you won't have a water pump failure and/or leak.

Mark yes I have the 5.0 but I thought since the V-6 and V-8 use the same block that the rear water manifold would also be very tight on the V-6?
You do have more room?

I just know I saw a post here, where someone replaced the rear pipe by taking off the wiper cowling etc. That was on a 3.0.

Maybe that works on the 5.0 too, I'm not sure.

In my opinion it doesnt. You'd have to have tiny tiny hands. I tried CWALKEY's method on my 5.0 and I decided to just get the supercharger removed, oil changed, and manifold replaced at the same time. They also updated the cooling y pipe. I already had the newer water pump and stub seal, etc.

Just curious if you don't mind, what it cost.
Mine is going to need to be done once spring comes along.
She's put up for the winter.

I don't mind. $2200 parts and labor. I'm in Milwaukee, WI for regional data use. Keep in mind I paid $700 for the snout repair kit (parts alone) as my supercharger snout was rattling. All issues resolved.
Probably more like budget 1-1.5k on a bad day. You could check your intakes for walnut blasting at the same time if that's a concern. Mine were pretty clean at 55k engine/70k chassis miles.

Definitely open to learning if someone else with better skills did this. I had a tiny ratchet with highest tooth count pawls I could find, and I still could not get back there with a quarter inch shallow socket after removing the firewall plates.

Good to hear about the lack of carbon build up. That's kind of an invisible and slowly building problem. Read a lot of bad stories with Audi's.

Actually sounds reasonable to me. Thinking when I do bring it in to have all the hoses and t-stat replaced. @93,000 miles It would give me piece of mind..

I replaced mine in March 2019 with AJ813909, it was weeping this year. The internal seals wear out over time, so I guess 4-5 years is not terrible. It seems to be a weak point for these cars.
I had the water pump replaced again while my valve cover gaskets were being replaced.

2012 Jaguar x351 v8 n/a I am REAL familiar with water pump failures as noted below

6/5/14 15,200 miles, water pump replaced under warranty when I went in for an oil change, didn't know there was a problem at the time

6/7/16 29,728 miles, catastrophic engine failure due to water pump. hoses failure. Jaguar was going to charge me $38,000 for a new engine. I wrote to England
and after months of haggling, they came back with a counter offer , I pay $3763 they pay the balance. Of course , I had two towing bills to eat,
one from the middle of nowhere to San Diego, then from San Diego to Scottsdale. I was doing 80mph when I received an engine failure notice
that it was shuting down. The smell of gas was outrageous and I was fortunate the engine did not explode. CHeck video of actor Dick Van Dyke
Jaguar just like mine exploding, we are both lucky guys.

8/30/21 30,000 on NEW ENGINE, $ 2148 water pump went out , changed hoses, etc coolant

6/9/22 Expansion tank cracked $463

10/25/2023 Various hoses leaking, replaced, new coolant $592

So between two engines, I have had 3 water pumps, and many leaking hoses replaced and one expansion tank ! Yikes, its about time for another water pump !

L:uv the car !

Thank god for Evans Waterless coolant so I don't have to live that life. I have had it for years in our 2014 RRS. It's a similar engine with the same coolant system parts and it still has its original water pump, all plastic parts (although I recently changed the front and rear crossover because I was in there when I had the supercharger off for an isolator change), original engine oil cooler seals, expansion tank, etc. And we live in South Texas where it gets crazy hot and below freezing for days at a time. I am switching my new 2019 to waterless coolant soon. Did our Mercedes a year ago.

Thanks - wow, you mean this stuff... - correct?

Care to explain a bit more how it works, and how it protects? I read the site, but it was a bit minimal...
