Had my water pump replaced today. A few months back while accelerating I got the coolant low notice, but stopped after I left off the throttle. Got it pressure tested last month and confirmed it was a small leak. Took it to a specialty shop today and they confirmed it was leaking via the weep hole. So a slow leak. They were very familiar with this as they had the parts on hand already, so took them all of 4 hours to diagnose and repair. Replaced with a Land Rover pump, O ring, and coolant pipe to pump since I have 5.0L supercharged, so same motor. Am at 63K miles for reference. The price was great too, much cheaper than what dealer quoted. If anyone is an San Diego, definitely check out British Autoworks, I found them via Yelp and the reviews were spot on for their service.

Just make sure you got the part number Stuart mentions above. At last count I think we have had 7 different water pump part numbers.

I have the same problem. The mechanic said there was small leaks. Anyone knows the replacement part number(the water pump) for 2013 XJL (X351). 3.0L V6 SC.
????
Thanks

I bought mine used. Is there any way we could tell if the water pump has been replaced previously?

Hi checked my Carfax. 2013 XJL 5.0 SC at 12,790 water pump replaced in 2014 car at 44,000 no seen issues. the pump does say Land Rover. but the part #BC2110160252 stamped on it i do not know what version it is...

from my research and reading on the forum the biggest issue is with the cooling system causing larger failures. this is a part of my weekly inspection now.. takes seconds to look for leaks.

thanks for all the info here..

I'm aware that I'm not on my XK150 forum.........however, I have had the coolant smell and some coolant loss for the last 6 years on my 2010 XK Coupe with currently 10,800 miles. All Jaguar dealers and one independent I've gone to have been unable to find any leak anywhere (including weep hole). Every over night pressurized coolant system holds up. I've learned to live with it as I've exhausted all resources. I do all local driving and constantly keep an eye on the coolant which requires very little to top up. I drive under 1,000 miles a year. .I have 3 months left on my Easy Care Gold extended warranty.

I also have a 2010 XK 58k miles and same thing, need to top up just a little bit every 4-6 months, I suspect its leaking from the cap though..

When I had a similar issue (coolant smell), I use my nose to guide me. I would open the hood and try to figure out where the smell is coming from. At the end, I traced it to the upper radiator hose where it connected to the radiator. There were no visual sings of leaks though.

Let your nose guide you

Default 2015 XJ 3.0 41,500 miles water pump leak/failure

For all you x351 3.0 owners who think that the water pump leak / failure only happens to 5.0's; I strongly suggest you reconsider and have your coolant system at least pressure checked. I pulled up to a traffic light in my 2015 XJ 3.0 only to have the front half of the car engulfed in steam and that sickening sweet smell of coolant boiling off a hot engine thinking....Aw crap, this can't be happening to me, I'm not a 5.0! But thank you God it happened as I only have 7 weeks left on my CPO warranty. Pump, rear coolant manifold assembly, outlet pipe, gaskets, hoses, coolant, engine bay wash, car loaner, 1.5 day turn around......all no charge, no hassle, no attitude (actually they were very pleasant)! Merry Christmas to me!!

2014 3.0L XJ RWD - replaced water pump Oct 2020 with 36K miles on it. Never saw drips but added a pint of coolant only once and smelled coolant continuously when I parked in my garage. Decided to not push it and got it changed. Winter was always the time for coolant system failure for me. Local dealer told me to anticipate failure between 30K-50K miles.

Wow great thread and information. I was very ignorant and lucky to have driven the XJ across country and not have a breakdown. I feel very fortunate!! I will keep an eye and nose out now for the coolant smell. Thanks for the information!!

I know this is an old thread but, the survey about water pump replacement caught my eye.
My 2014 XJL Portfolio RWD 3.0 supercharged has had 2 water pumps under warranty since new and will most likely have another this week out of warranty.
1st was at 16,600 miles. They replaced it with the C2Z31587 pump and a new tube (C2Z18658) . They also installed a new O2 sensor.
2nd was at 33,800 miles. They put in the newer version pump (AJ813909), new C2Z18658 tube and new in/out tubes LR050934/5 & C2Z28258 and new connector cooler, hoses/gaskets & AJ813860 tube.
Today (Feb 16, 2021) at 44,700 mile, I have another coolant leak at the water pump.
Jag has unmatched styling and eye catching pizzazz. It is truly discouraging however that for $86k USD, Jaguar can’t build a truly reliable vehicle. Although, it is possible the issue may be improper repairs at the dealer. ...My 2 cents...

Wow, Quietgiant, you are having incredibly bad luck with the cooling system and water pumps. Wonder if you have sand in your system. Did the dealer ever give the system a thorough flush. I can only guess at what is destroying water pump seals.
