I guess if it was overengineered like a sixties Cadillac it would get the same gas mileage : 12 on the highway, 8 MPG in the city.

2010 XK 5.0 N/A (sorry for cross contaminating) 38,000 miles. Just had the water pump replaced today at he dealer. Very slow leak for the past few months, no noise or chatter. They said it was leaking at the outlet tube but I had the pump installed anyway. Latest part is AJ813909. Seems to be the 4th generation. Hopefully 4th time is the charm???? sigh.....

After 4yrs of ownership and dreading the day, it finally happened to me. 2012 XJL SC 49k miles. I have a jaguar extended warranty so it cost me $500 out of pocket ($100 was deductible) and the rest was replacement of normal wear and tear hoses and labor. The warranty covered 1500.00. This makes a total of about 2300 in repairs that the extended warranty has covered in the first year of its coverage.- only another 4yrs and 51k miles to go, LOL. I'm pretty sure I'll end up getting my full ~3600 back from the warranty purchase.

2010 XKR with around 17,000 miles. Going in next week to have the pump changed because there is a slight smell of coolant and the water pump shaft can be wiggled quite a bit.

It makes one think that if this part has been superseded 8 times, firstly 1) have all those 8 replacement pumps failed as well? and more importantly 2) how much confidence should we have in the latest pump???? After 8 attempts what has Jaguar discovered as the real culprit now? It's amazing, because the basics of a water pump or inherently quite simple. How many other car manufacturers have water pumps that last 150-200,000 miles? I don't get that warm and fuzzy feeling with Jaguar.

PS....I wonder how bad my water pump must be if it was the very first one made for the car????

Default Water pump replacement

Almost two years ago, I purchased a 2012 XJ S/C, after I finally found one that was a CPO. Since my parking brake wouldn't calibrate, I figured it was time to take it in. I mentioned that I SMELLED coolant, but never saw any drips. Dealer called few days later and confirmed that the water pump would be replaced under warranty. They said the reason you don't usually SEE drips is because of the under car cladding. They also said that was the reason I didn't see that the RACK was leaking, which was ALSO replaced under warranty. The parking brake was the DIFFICULT issue, though. They diagnosed a defective body wiring harness, of which NONE EXIST. They are having the OEM manufacturer produce one, which is scheduled for the third week of July. Jlna and the dealer were excellent to work with, and though waiting a month for a part was unexpected, they never batted an eye at the needed repairs. Mileage is 55,000.

Further to my post of November 2017, the sudden water pump failure toasted the motor. Warranty company tried a rebuilt motor that was bad on receipt and eventually shelled out for a Jaguar longblock. I dumped the car after two engine removals on the advice of my service guy.

Jaguar's water pump failures are a drop in the bucket compared to BMW's. From Carbuzz.com:

BMW. It's name says it all - Blew My Water pump.

Default Wp replacement 90k after throttle body clean

2011 XKL 5.0 V8 cat driver here.
At 90k (w/ no previous WP replacement) our San Diego car (think temperate dry easy life) had WP pump replaced. Why?
This is where the soft intel comes in. A series of contributing events preceded: A P106 code was thrown, (Barometric code ie; MAP & MAF sensor clean w/ no joy). Next step was throttle body and air manifold intake cleaning performed in my garage. This cleared the errant code.
Importantly however, the water pump sits attached and beneath the TB. This water pump has delicate plastic ‘L’ joint intake tubing on the bottom front and right of pump (IT IS Easily Cracked w/ Slightest Movemrnt). It’s a weak point. Over time and heat cycling this insert becomes the primary leak culprit for the WP.
An easy telltale is the slight whiff of coolant often w/ little or often no orange coolant present in puddling.
Jaguar has an ‘update kit’ of two parts;
AJ813565 @ $46.70 and
C2Z28467 @ $64.50
To create a degree of peace of mind and good PM practice it was replaced w/ Rock Auto replacement. Took 3 hours and one English Pint. Happy hunting chaps.

JLR upgraded the water pump again. The most recent part number is AJ813909.

For details including photos of the new and improved design compared to the old design, see Post #33 in this thread from the X150 (XK/XKR) Forum:

2012 Water Pump was showing some drips at the weep hole. My aftermarket warranty doesn't cover hoses so I had to pay for those but getting it replaced on my 2012 XJL Supercharged this week. Confirming with service what the PN is, thanks for that Stuart. I'm at 40k miles. It was a Texas car, so it's pretty dry all over.

My 2014 XJR which has been the only car I have ever owned that has not had a single problem has just had it's first repair!

Yes the water pump and plastic cooling tubes at 33K miles. Same as many I had a faint smell of coolant but no lights and the tank stayed full. Went in for my yearly oil change and asked them to check it.
You can see my other thread on that!

Got a strange answer from the service lady that there would be a $199 cooling system check service charge. I said I have a CPO warranty I think this should be covered??
No answer but about an hour later the mechanic came looking for me and said yes I am replacing the water pump. Got the latest part number as Stuart posted above.

The water pump is a common and known problem so I am glad to get it replaced under warranty. The rear plastic cooling tubes are now my weak point. Another good thing is the SC has to be pivoted up but not removed to install the plastic "Y" pipe on the front of the engine. So I "hope" the SC alignment pins have now been broken free so the SC should be easier to remove in the future. Hope he put anti-seize on the pins but probably not.

Total bill for me was $1700. Aftermarket warranty covered $1100. I did get an oil change which was like ~$150 of that total amount.

They gave me a 2018 Disco Sport HSE. Fun car. Swapped them back when they dropped off the car to my house, but turned out someone curbed the wheel or crashed into a curb they bent my driver's side wheel and the tire started to bubble. The driver had no idea, after driving for an hour and a half that the wheel was bent. Lots of confidence there. They bought me a new wheel and a new tire, both should arrive to my place next Monday and they are footing the repair bill since I live 1.5 hours from the nearest Jag dealer.

Still, my time's worth something and it's a huge hassle to run all over town but I am very happy that they made it right. I still need to get under the car to see how bad the impact was and if any suspension components are messed up. I'm on the mismatched spare now - who thought it was a good idea to include a 19" spare when the car is optioned for 20" wheels? Beats me.

Probably the only size that would fit into the void in the trunk.

The 19" compact spare tire has a taller profile than the 20" tire, thereby making the overall diameter of both approximately equal. Otherwise, the antilock brake system would throw a fault code and disengage.

The key is overall rolling diameter, not wheel size.

Default Me too: Water Pump failure at 32k miles

Love my 2014 XJ, But at 32k miles the water pump failed March 2019. Unacceptable for the premium price this beautiful vehicle demands.

Thank you Stuart for posting the most recent WATER PUMP part number is AJ813909 , as of March 2019. I want to make sure the dealer puts the most recent one. Thank you

Water pump failure 2014 Jaguar XJL at 32k miles. I Love my Jag, so IAM heart broken Jaguar betrayed this beautiful vehicle, this failure is unexcusable for the PREMIUM PRICE JAGUAR LAND ROVER demand when other Asian brands rarely have this issue in their first 100k miles.
LOVE HURTS :-)
