Default Tempered Glass for ‘16 XJL PORTFOLIO

Hello friends,

I’m looking at getting my XJL sunroof tinted. The shop asked me if the glass on both sunroofs are tempered. Can anyone help me in answering that question? He said if it’s tempered glass then the glass will brake with nano ceramic tint on it. I’m going to get my front windshield tinted (clear nano ceramic) to block out more heat. Exterior color is black. The car interior gets extremely hot in the summer time!

thanks.

That's scary that tint could cost you big bucks in glass replacement. Are your electric sunshades broken?

No. Everything functional. I have clear nano ceramic tint on my other vehicle. It makes the interior way cooler. That’s what I wanted to do the with the XJL.

I examined my 2012 XJ glass, and couldn't find any markings on either sunroof, sorry. All of the other pieces of glass have a watermark indicating agency approvals and the type of glass.
I suspect that your sunroofs aren't laminated like your windshield, rear window and side windows. But it seems impossible that they aren't at least tempered; I think all automotive glass must be either.
BTW, those "click" automotive survival glass breakers won't work on an XJ, due to the laminated glass. Another reason not to lock your doors when underway. This auto-lock "feature" is easily disabled, RTFM.

Good Morning Jag Lovers,

2012 Jaguar XJL 351

My sunshades don't operate correctly because I broke the little plastic runners/ sliders while I was trying to force the shades the final 1/2' to fully closed. Jaguar wants
almost 2 grand to take apart everything and reinsert the replacement clips i bought for $25, So, rather than give the dealer the 2 grand, I had tint applied to both
panoramic sunroof panels two years ago, It cost $215, at a local tint shop and the invoice reads XPEL XR PLUS 15% with a lifetime warranty. The installer talked me out of using the darkest tint as he said it would trap too much hot air in the car, so I went with the next darkest shade. It has worked out very well so far with no issues and the car is a heck of a lot cooler in our Arizona sun than without the tint.

Happy Motoring
Gpk

I think I’m going to let them do just the front windshield with clear nano ceramic. I told them my front windshield has the heated option. They told me it wouldn’t be a problem and they have done many Range Rovers with that option.
